You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
And, how long do you think you'll use it for?
Since before STW was STW. (Go-far) - so >10 years.
No idea.
WHAT?! YOU"LL HAVE TO SPEAK UP LOVE. I USED TO COME HERE WHEN IT WAS ALL FIELDS!
I'VE STILL GOT ALL MY OWN TEETH YOU KNOW
About 6 years mostly under a different username.
I tend to get a bit bored of the arguments and infighting and stop visiting the site about once a year but so far I keep coming back. Can't see that pattern changing.
Sheesh, posting inane stuff on here rather than reply to my email, get your priorities sorted!! 😛
Since 2004 i think. No idea how long i'll use it for, til i get bored/can't access the internet from the ocean 😀
Too.
Some.
No idea!
03/04 iirc
this is my final post.
I logged on in the early noughties to sell a mojo.
Been taking it seriously since 2003 though, hope to keep it up long into retirement.
Not sure when it started, or why, or how long it will last.
I get bored of the whole thing periodically and then interested again. I do like being able ask just about any question and get an answer. It's a querulous google lite type thing.
2009 🙁
Just a few months, still on honeymoon 🙂
about 2 weeks used, about 1 day left.
Killed some time while I was off work is all. Most of you are ****s.
what a ****ing amateur use it at work dont use it when off work
noobs 🙄
Most of you are ****
Fair point. Well made.
Well, "deadly" was my...
Oh, sorry, wrong answer.
Erm, I dunno.
Erm, I dunno.
Longer than you for both though.
A year-ish? Til I win a WC event.
Too long - since Issue One, when was that?
2002, but I did go walkabout 2004-08.
I remember the exodus of loads of Surrey Hills/ND riders to Chocolate Foot. Can't say that was the most civilised of places to hang out though.
Er, a long time. 10 years, I'd guess (under another name previously).
Crikey.
...since Issue One, when was that?
You see that 10th Anniversary flash on the front of the mag?
That's a clue. 🙄
2004ish I reckon
2002 I think.
I got a login in 2003 as I wanted to sell a bike. Not sure how long I'll stay, I guess as long as I continue to be entertained...
EDIT: I have all the magazines (1 to 66 with two copies of issue 17 for some strange reason) but I've just cancelled my subscription so I guess that's going to end. (Went to Dirt for a change).
About 7 to 8 years.
Since just before Issue 1. About the time it went from GoFar to Singletrack.
probably since the same year the very first SITS was . . .
there were 2 motley crew teams put together, basically people who were billy no mates, but who all came on here.
Made a good friend out of it, anyone else still nocking about?
11 years, didn't need an account to post on the forum back then so I usually just logged-in manually and that's the reason I stuck with such a short username.
I think the correct answer is:
'I was here first, with a single speeder before bikes were invented and before niche was anything but a term to describe a specific environmental setting.'
I had to check my posting history in my profile to find out.
45 pages in 2 years.
Not long.
Quite a while I imagine.
A long time - since the Go-Far days.
A long time ago.
I don't frequent the place much anymore, but do occasionally look in to check that some people are alive, and that the rest of you are still rehashing what's been written here a hundred times before.
Joined last week. I am not impressed
since go-far
Not sure how long, before the magazine started though
A year and a half when I bought a frame off the classifieds 😛
Disappeared for a while but I came back...funnily enough when I was avoiding revision!
Since about 80ish bikes ago 😆 . Sheesh, this site has a lot to answer for 😈
Actually I even remember my first post - asking whether it was OK to file down a cassette cog to make the teeth longer for singlespeed use 😳 - Brant replied iirc. Oh, and yes, it did work . . . sort of 😉 (niche ratio or what 😆 )
asking whether it was OK to file down a cassette cog to make the teeth longer for singlespeed use
you know you can also file a whole tooth off completely to increase the gear ratio too?
I think I found gofar but never really returned and definitely didn't post on it - wasn't much into the internet then & hardly ever went on at home due to ded slow connection
Found stw proper maybe 9yr ago I guess, when I got broadband
😆 @ Stoner - must try that sometime 😉
😆 @ Stoner - must try that sometime 😉
Oh and in answer to the OP - before STW went ***s up allowing double posts.
Since I signed up.
Not as long as some, but longer than others.
I feel my interest waning.
- a few years ago,
- not sure but probably for quite a while.
Was an inactive member before the hack... probably since 2004. Now I go through weeks where I spend way too much time on here followed by weeks where I don't even think of looking.
Some behaviour drives me crazy, but mostly it's a fun distraction.
since 2003ish, but I lurk more than I post these days.
Too long, since about 2005/6
Trying to wean myself off as it's been a bit boring lately, but it doesn't seem to be working. 😀 😥
2005 ish ... i think .... cant really remember.
no idea how long i'll stay with it .... as long as i'm riding bikes i suppose.
Too long, but before it was STW anyway. Been through the great crash, the log in with anyone's user name, & the ability to post with no user name, having multiple user names etc.
I no longer feel the need to get involved or argue for the hell of it, but I like to chip in if I have a genuine contrubution to make or I want to ask something silly that I wouldn't want to ask anyone else.
For more than ten years I have enjoyed the forum, long may it last.
I was here when all this was [s]fields[/s] GoFar and Usenet.
Shaun was in the process of falling out with Chipps and Mark.
No idea when that was.
About 2002 then 😉
That long, crikey.
It did seem quite surreal at the time, as a noob, watching the sites owners having public ding-dongs on their own forum.
We've got Twitter for that sort of thing now.
I joined a few months ago but this is my first ever post!
I joined up to get info on bikes and rides etc, but it's really quite intimidating on here.
Sod off hurtduck you wimp! What the hell is intimidating about posting on here?!?! 😀
Joined a couple of months ago, you lot got recommended by my whippetmate.
I came in search of enlightement and the refamation but found hippies in a muddy field talking about 29erSS' and slack jawed 160mm travel iron.
Laughed out loud many times since.
Enjoy the Architecture threads.
Enjoy the banter too (yeah, really)
Will I last the distance?? Yup, you're an intellegent bunch believe it or not.
Since about 2004 in various guises.
According to my profile I joined 6th July 2009 after being recommended by a friend.
I find all the bickering quite amusing and don't take it too seriously, but I never join in so it doesn't really bother me.
Similar to bikebouy, I've laughed a lot and have even shed a tear at some of the kindness and generosity of some people.
No plans to leave any time soon as it helps relieve the boredom during the day and allows Mrs MM to watch crap on the TV at night.
2002
10 years back in 2002?
One guy used to post pictures of his black cat lol
It was pretty friendly forum too.
2 days.
Not sure how long, not as far back as Go-far, but prob not long after, had a different user name then (sslloowww) had to change it as getting fitter......
A few months.
As with any forum, it's all drivel but a convenient distraction.
2005 for me
Started on the On-One forum before venturing over to STW
Go-far... Dunno... maybe 2003 or so ?
I know the place has ended up with me spunking loads of money of MTB stuff.
