It seems simple at first...
1 hour.
.... 😕
* keeps quiet just in case
edit: wot hex sed ^ [maybe]
Boat or plane ? Depends on tide or wind speed/direction. Measured against what reference too, earth's rotation.
Are you factoring in the 20 minutes when you sit shamefaced in the back of a police car pretending that you had no idea how fast you were really going in a 40mph zone?
30 mins if Trump says it is
Rolling or standing start ?
8 minutes.
Are you on a treadmill?
80mph on a conveyor belt ??? 🙂
Swedish miles or an African swallow?
is this an allusion to that Dumb American you tube video?
4 weeks and a prawn sandwich.
On a 650b or 29er?
Are you factoring in the deceleration from the 2,700,000 mph we are travelling through space?
Published on 16 Dec 2011
60 minutes*
*not accounting for relativistic effects.
At alt speed... No more than 10 minutes
ok, if you went at 100mph for the first half hour, how fast would you need to go for the second half hour to average 80
8 more MPH and it would take minus thirty years.
What tyres?
8 more MPH and it would take minus thirty years.
Conveyor belts? Where we're going we won't need conveyor belts.
ok, if you went at 100mph for the first half hour, how fast would you need to go for the second half hour to average 80
60mph obvs*. Is this like those competitions on the tellybox designed I presume to entice stupid people into thinking that they are the only ones who know the answer to questions like this?
* Assuming immediate deceleration from 100 to 60...
Conveyor belts? Where we're going we won't need conveyor belts.
😆
You could go to Joe Cockers funeral though.
On a 650b or 29er?
It'd have to be a road bike surely..? You couldn't maintain speed on a MTB.
ok, if you went at 100mph for the first 40 miles, how fast would you need to go for the second 40 miles to average 80
mean or median?
ok, if you went at 100mph for the first 40 miles, how fast would you need to go for the second 40 miles to average 80
66.6666 mph.
what would median mean in such a context?
Viz
Drivers - avoid being nicked by the new average speed cameras by doing 90mph for 2 minutes then stopping for a spliff
what would median mean in such a context?
I'm trying to think of a clever answer, but what would happen if you sampled the speed every mile rather than every minute?
Will there be a comfort break halfway?
The tyre turning thing obviously affects it.
african or european?
Was it the fault of the EU?
Assuming mph is miles per hour not metres per hour - the defintion of (constant) 80mph is travelling 80 miles in an hour. So how can the answer not be one hour? What am I missing?
Or is this an oblique reference to Zeno's dichotomy paradox?
Metric or Imperial Miles?
😆 @ scuttler
If I go 80mph for one hour, how far have I gone? ** Mind Blown **
how far have I gone?
depends what route you take - it your on the M25 you'll be 37 miles away from where you started (and in quite a bit of trouble when you open the post in a few days time)
if its around the circumference of a 25 mile wide circle you'll have gone nowhere ...fast.
it your on the M25 you'll be 37 miles away from where you started
But you've stil gone 80 miles.
But you've stil gone 80 miles.
but how then do you measure the distance between two places?
But you've stil gone 80 miles.
Indeed - you'd be smarter to go the other way round - you'd get there in less than half the time
yes, always shorter out of the sun, as the crow flies
but how then do you measure the distance between two places?
Indeed. You're mixing a linear geometry (nearly flat plane) with a non-linear one (the road network). So you get these apparent paradoxes.

Who's more stupid, the wife or the muppet driving whilst filming using his phone?
Yes. The journey was 80 miles. And we were travelling at 80 mph. And it took us 61 minutes as we stopped for 1 minute to buy some sweets.
A good couple of hours due to outside lane hogging muppets! 👿
If I was to go out tomorrow and drive eighty miles at eighty miles an hour for the first time in my life it will have taken me over fifty-two years.
It depends whether you are doing 80mph or just think you are doing 80mph.
Your car speedo registers a higher speed than you are actually doing - you can easily compare this when you have your sat nav on - the speed on there is usually different...
The difference can be up to about 10%.
What if they measure the miles 10% shorter to compensate though. Have you thought about that?
1 hour as the crow flies, but "to go 80 miles" is a little bit ambiguous
Surely that depends how fast the crow is flying though?
And are we talking airspeed or groundspeed?
I don't think that guy has much respect for his girlfriend.
Was the car fueled up on the right side or was the hose stretched over the car? This, as we all know, has a huge impact on everything including how fast you travel.
stopped for 1 minute to buy some sweets.
That was quick! Oh, I know, you're one of those who parks right by the shop doorway despite the double yellow lines...
I don't think that guy has much respect for his girlfriend.
Amusingly that video spawned a whole host of similar ones with similar disrespect.
This guy has it pretty much down to an art:
I think it's awful that these men are so mean to these poor women, but the pizza one did make me laugh!
but how then do you measure the distance between two places?
time.
Before rail travel it used to be a 24 hour journey from London to Bristol.
It's now a 24 hour journey from London to Sydney.
Bristol used to be as remote from London as Sydney is now.
