With the restrictions being reviewed in 11 days time and the golfers complaining about the limited restrictions, would we anticipate some relaxation of the rules?
I was re-reading the COVID restrictions around exercising and keeping it local. To me, local is the definition of directly form my front door. I haven't ridden much since lockdown3 was introduced as it is very limited living in a city, the better riding (still not great but we make the best of it) is a 7 mile drive away.
A riding buddy (he lives locally to our local trails, if you an call them that) has suggested that because two persons form different households can exercise together that we resume our normal Saturday morning 20mile'ish local ride. This takes in a few good trail sections separated by many miles of road munching.
So going back to the 'directly from my door' would add an additional 14 miles to the ride, which is quite a bit much to squeeze into a mornings ride of mainly road sections.
Who would consider a drive of 7 miles to exercise as being local? I ask because I follow some people on instagram who judging by their posts are still getting out and about. I may be wrong but some of them may still have to drive to the trails.
I wouldn't drive as we've bridleways from the door (literally) but equally I wouldn't complain about someone driving a few miles to get somewhere to ride/run. I'd definitely dial back the tech side of things though - see the virtue signalling on the recent MRT accident thread.
Hang on, I'll make a brew.
As far as I'm aware (and this is in England) there is nothing in the regulations that specifies "local". The guidelines say keep local, the regulations don't. https://www.legislation.gov.uk/coronavirus

There isn't a fixed amount, and nothing in law, so it is just what you feel comfortable with. I'd say seven miles was local and perfectly fine to drive that far to exercise. I wouldn't and haven't but more because I'm happy to go from the door and anything worth driving for is about 20 miles away, but no criticism of anyone who would or has. As long as you can easily socially distance its fine as that is the point (all imo)
