The other day I got a spam text from someone (who had my full name, annoyingly), offering insider tips on horse racing.
I replied 'stop', blocked the number, ignored it.
Then today I got a call from someone who asked for me by name, told me he was following up the text and said he worked for 'South Coast Leisure' (which appears not to exist, as far as horse racing is concerned) and that they work very very closely with jockeys and.... at which point I asked him to remove me from his contact list and ended the call.
surely this type of thing is illegal. Seems weird that they would actively go calling random people to spread the word? I don't know where they got my name and number from - I have never placed a bet in my life and consider horse racing to be up there with plague and Giles Coren in the list of things I wouldn't waste my piss on if they caught fire. So it can't be that they've got a list from a bookies or somewhere they might reasonably expect to find interestd people - it's clearly just random...
Normally replying STOP to the text is the problem as you've confirmed your number is real.
It's best not to reply at all and block them.

But othertimes it stops you getting premium texts which you are getting charged for
STOP only works if you've signed up for something (intentionally or accidentally) in the first place.
Send the text to your network provider's spam number.
Block the number.
