You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Tomorrow we’re supposed to be taking our 7 year old nephew out for a ride, the loose plan was a play at Dalkeith country park.
Is it really icy and horrible still or have things thawed out?
Over here on the west coast it’s cold, but not solid icy, slippery ground cold.
He’s not much of biker yet so don’t want to be putting him off with a horrendous day out!
Not sure where you are in the west but it's icy death on the outskirts of East Kilbride where I am. My mates up in Anniesland and he rode from the door this morning and turned back after a mile as it was ice everywhere.
I'd say any country park is likely to be very frozen at the moment
I was going to do the Restrap soltice century tomorrow. I'm in Milngavie. Absolutely no chance, lethal both on and off road here.
Main roads in Glasgow are free of ice, but small not often used side roads and pathways are dangerous.
The air temp is up, and it's been raining on and off for the last day which has cleared a fair bit, but there are patches(mainly not often used side roads and paths) that you suddenly arrive into so if you are out be aware and dont try any sudden turns unless you know the road is ice free.
You may be better off heading a bit further East to Gullane or Dirleton in East Lothian and cycle on the John Muir way to North Berwick for an ice cream
Just need to wrap up well but shouldn't be any icy paths there as fairly close to the sea
I'm in St Andrews and there were still nasty icy patches on most of the untreated roads and paths. It's mainly where the snow has been compacted by people walking or driving on it and the thaw/freeze has turned it to ice.
Also East Coast here, plenty of icy patches to rapidly change your planned trajectory but the main roads seem fine.
Local paths out of town have compressed ice still.
I was at Callander house in Falkirk yesterday morning - icy compressed paths and no snow.
I drove Stirling to St Andrews square in central Edinburgh last night.
Not a drop of ice it snow in Edinburgh, a slight dusting at Falkirk, snow in Stirling side streets, and then you get Dunblane that's battered and still icy.
It's melting fast this morning.
Not melting as fast as it will tomorrow when it reaches 11C.
Stirling is a skating rink. Council are doing a decent job - out with their street and pavement gritters but they can only do the main routes.
Even if cleared the main roads have snow and ice encroaching from the edges.
I'm in Musselburgh (about 1 mile from Dalkeith Country Park). Haven't been into the country park but plenty paths here and on the coast near Cockenzie still had sheets of ice on them yesterday and there's been another keen frost overnight so I wouldn't expect any thaw to have happened yet.
Hmm. Well we’ve just arrived in Edinburgh to pick him up.
Frosty but doesn’t look horrendous so far.
I think we’ll go and take a look and then go to indoor crazy golf(?) if it looks like a no go.
We were hoping to find some gravel / stony paths to ride on rather than roads, which in theory should be better but not if they’ve been well trodden.
Troon this morning felt tropical, no ice left at all.
Paths around Edinburgh were treacherous yesterday - covered in sheet ice. looks like there was a frost again last night so be careful if you try any biking. I wouldn't even think of off road biking in these conditions.
Like button pressed 👍👍👍👍
