69wpm
17 keystrokes too many
3 wrong words
Better than 88.44%

That was with my work laptop resting on my knee. I might have a bash when I get home to my proper (mechanical!) keyboard.

44 67%, not bad for a club fisted engineer.

Pretty sure i could do better, i can scribe review meetings typing out the report as people talk.

60 wpm Advance, 61 wpm normal.

I spend more time thinking than typing 🙂

58wpm after a couple of tries - first one was terrible and a film advert popped up but the clocked kept running.

Apparently that's 81% of all users.

Bit of an irrelevant test though for me, as normally when I type (like now) I am glancing at the keyboard (which is probably frowned upon?)and typing the words that I am thinking of, rather than typing words on a screen.....

quite pleased with almost a word a second though.....(the words are all quite short in that test though)...

43 wpm and seemed to be typing like mad - no idea how you type faster.

Its probably like riding, the smoother you are the faster you go rather than hacking around frantically mashing the keyboard.

I have a golden rule of never typing faster than I can think. As a consequence I type rather slowly with one finger of one hand.

Words per minute (WPM) 49

Correct words 48

You are better than 73.21% of all users (position 42336 of 158033 - last 24 hours)

That's me on the limit! But first and only go. I think I may be a little faster if what I was typing something that made sense and was predictable, but not by much.

Seem to be hitting around 50wpm on that. I too think I'm a tiny bit quicker when typing my own words (can't touch type so need to see the keyboard rather than read-type-read-type-etc.).

Still WAY faster and WAY more legibly than I can write these days.

49wpm

I think its probably easier to type the words in your head than read random words from a screen though.

Anything above 60 is pretty good and significantly faster than handwriting

Yes. I think I can type a bit faster than that - for me I suspect the bottleneck might've been the comprehension of random words. I kept typing words that would naturally have followed other words and looked vaguely like what was on the screen.

Oli, that's abysmal! I just tried it again and got:
73wpm
Keystrokes 380 (367/13)
2 wrong words
Better than 90.54%

Definitely going to have try when I get home. I agree with people saying it would be easier with full sentences rather than a random order of words.

107wpm
33 keystrokes too many
6 wrong words
Better than 98.72%

First attempt. What do I win? 8)

Second attempt:
115wpm
24 keystrokes too many
4 wrong words (as I realised I could correct them)
Better than 99.33%

You could try simply typing real text in and see what it says. Of course it'd give you a large score of wrong words but should still record the wpm.

The problem with that approach for me is that I think I type faster than the speed of thought (not sure whether that says more about my typing or my thinking!) so I'd have to have a block of text pre-written to copy down.

So - open another browser window with a news article or something. Use the Sun so the words are nice and short 🙂
