Aye, did 8 and a bit months. Not the role for me at that time. Quite some time ago now though. Ummm - 15 years.

Interesting that some Police forces have a '20mph' restriction. I thought it was only some ambulance services.

There is no such restriction in place where I am (on ambulances at least) but when responding to an emergency, lights and sirens are compulsory at all times. IMO there is enough concentration involved in a safe emergency drive without having to constantly check the speedo and taking your eyes off the road, even for a fraction of a second. Anyone 'blue light trained' will tell you that the pressure is huge, as in virtually any accident where you are above the speed limit or doing a manoeuvre such as going through a red light, you would be judged to be at fault. The onus is on you (as a supposedly highly trained professional) to anticipate and avoid mistakes by other road users.

So Mr Wombat... you followed a Police car for 12 miles at 90 mph, did you? Thanks for the admission; do you want the fine now?

Purely in the interests of accuracy.....I was a rear seat passenger, nothing in my posts says or was intended to imply that I was driving.
