Hi chaps,
I've got a dripping TRP valve on our unvented cylinder. I've drained it, and I've replace the a trial plastic valve, but no joy. The next step is to replace the pipe and the push rod.
Before I try it, I'm a bit concerned about messing it up, as it's a pressurised big container.
Is it just as simple as unscrew the current one, and pop the new one in?
Cheers
Ricks
you can turn off the cold water at the mains and drain the cylinder down to the level of the valve by opening a hot tap and operating the valve till it stops
Running.
Swap the valve, turn on the cold at the mains and close the hot
Tap when it starts running again. This assumes you have an expansion vessel on your cylinder. If it doesn’t and you have a ‘bubble top’ type, you should check the manufacturers instructions for refilling it.
Smudger has it about right, but I would want to check what has caused the T&P valve to go as well, failed expansion, or overheat should be investigated.
Replaced the valve, but not the housing or the push-rod. Tightened it down to probably 15nm of torque, and it's dripping slightly slower.
So I assume the housing and/or the push rod are faulty.
It drips when there's only 10psi of pressure in the tank, which shouldn't be enough to actuate the push rod to open the valve.
So, my guess is I need to replace the whole TRP, not just the valve itself. I've got the whole unit, but it doesn't look like I can remove the current one without cutting a pipe to get access.
Any other ideas, or do my thoughts sound sensible?
