I'm planning a multiday hike on the southern half of the Pennine Way. I hate carrying too much water, and plan to fill up from streams on the way, but I've heard that it's really dry right now. Is Kinder Downfall still flowing? I'm relying on that for my first day!
Well it's to rain all sodding week around Matlock, not sure how close that is but that's what I'm looking forward to.
Chesterfield local and it's been raining since Thursday. Not been out and about for the last two weeks because life has got in the way. But I'd be surprised if it was that dry in the peaks.
Out yesterday… it’s pretty wet. Streams and catchment runs in good flow. I think you’ll be ok. You’re bringing the ability to sterilise, right?
Daughter was doing rafting etc down at Trent Lock yesterday and I was surprised how high and fast the river is for this time of year.
Given that it's fed partly by the Derwent at that point, I'm not sure the Peak is that dry.
Very wet yesterday, loads of running water

I take a filter which I use for all the water, and chlorine tabs if I'm a bit lower down or it looks a bit dodgy
Amazing, thanks all!!
River Derwent (near the feed in from the Wye) was flowing fast yesterday - but VERY brown

I think you'll be fine given that it's raining here pretty much daily atm, but the Dark Peak does a weird, sponge-like thing where it dries out slowly and rehydrates at a correspondingly slow pace, so maybe a sensible approach is simply to make sure you have the carrying capacity for some extra water just in case - it's not like a lightweight reservoir or folding bottle is exactly bulky or heavy.
Are you wild camping or staying at sites btw?
Until last week its been very dry and dusty, but its then chucked it down biblically. The ground itself is still pretty dry (where its not puddles) - all the rain has just washed straight off into the streams, so they're running pretty well - however the water has taken all that silt/sand/grit/peat with it, so expect anything out of a watercourse to be pretty mucky.
*looks out of window, listens to yet more thunder, looks at towel soaking up the water coming under the door.
I'm going to say "not very".
cutgate / ladybower was bone dry with the odd muddy puddle on thursday, since then its pretty much rained in huddersfield 20 mile north, and its currently thunder hailing in greenfield, the road outside my brothers was going white with hail

Wild camping, with a bivvy and tarp, with some campsites and/or b and b's if needed or convenient. I normally have a litre bottle filled with water, and another litre bag attached to the filter if I need it (Katadyn BeFree)
