Say, leave posts and just leave as User Deleted.

Can it been done in BBPress ?

I would like to step away. But it seems there is no way to delete an account like other forums.

Got a link ?

Raw installs of BBpress allows users to leave. But leave content as is for forum integrity, which I get.

I guess, just log and forget.

Change your password in Chrome, let google choose a random one for you, then delete it from saved passwords
Still, even deleting your account won’t make the website go away. If you havent got the willpower to stay away, you might still look 👀

Willpower. I used to be a regular on Barryboys but decided it was affecting me in ways I didn't like so just stopped logging in.

Now, if only I could apply that same self-restraint to dieting...

Time to Log Off for a while.

Bit of a break will do me good.

Some topics on here and the vitriol that ensues has become a bit of a turn off 🙁

Spose I better get that two wheeled thing out of the shed now 😉

Thanking you all for the great things over years. You know who you are 🙂

We can give you a timed or unlimited ban if you fancy a break.

When the  fun stops, stop.

You don't work for a betting company do you?

Do that, and while on that break reflect you aren't the problem. I think I know the recent thread(s) that have made you feel like this and the people involved are just being dicks, IMHO. It's fine to disagree but the constant sniping and personal attacks by a minority are very wearing. And that's not even taking sides, on some of the politics threads in particular both sides are just yelling the same thing over and over at each other and the rest of us are just fed up.

We've said this place is a bit like a pub, and it feels like you're trying to have a pint and a chat and maybe a disagreement even, while the same few keep knocking your glasses over and throwing chairs at each other in a full blown fist fight. If only there was another pub to go to.

I tried that a couple of years ago, I fell into temptation and reset my password🙄

I've got an add on Simple Blocker in Firefox that I can specify webpages to block certain threads rather than the whole forum. e.g. the F1 or some political ones. It is easily undone, but takes a few steps so might me enough. Good luck.

I think it just highlights the difference between online and real life. Out in the real world if you cross the line there's a real chance things will descend into violence which tends to keep people civil the majority of the time. Online there are no consequences.

Just do what I do. Problematic threads are really easy to spot and avoid. Let the point scorers battle it out and totally ignore them.

Never get involved in a back and forth. If someone disagrees with me and has a whinge I'll leave it. I'm never typing a response to someone who wants an argument. They might have the time and energy to have keyboard battles but I can't be arsed. And some people on STW seem to have unlimited time and energy when it comes to being a hand wringing pedant.

If I catch myself typing anything too salty because I think someone's being a Muppet I'll usually delete it and move on.

Just step away, I didn't come on here for a few years, it was around the time that Fred et al were just arguing non stop on every thread and pretty much every time something was informative or interesting it got derailed by the usual suspects, I did get in to the habit of just skipping anything written by certain people but they were so prodigious it became an exercise in futility, arguing on the internet is a rather sad and fruitless pastime if you ask me, tho many seem to enjoy it.

There was one poster on the landlord thread who was particularly trying, that reminded me once again that the only thing I expect to have in common with folk on here is that I like to ride a bike from time to time.

Even that isn’t a given

At one point there was a plugin that let you block individual posters through the browser, it was brilliant...

I actually know where the OP is coming from and have sometimes thought the same myself. In my case I do what sharkattack suggested.

I also feel a bit bloody minded - there is some good advice and camaraderie on here - so why I should I walk away and let the sea lions and dick heads win?

There are a couple of posters I just mentally bleep over. You start reading abject nonsense, check who's posted and go "ah, yes, that explains it" and mentally scroll past (and I'm terrible for keeping track of usernames). Also, it's not mandatory to read absolutely every thread.

It's trivial for the mods to give you a holiday. If you want your username changing then that's a question for Mark. It will be vanishingly unlikely that you'll get your posting history removed.

I stepped away from Fb for several years, partly because of the increasing amount of conspiracy crap, and partly because after it got me back in touch with Jo after many years, I devoted myself to her.
Here, on the other hand, because threads are individual, and are easy to check, identity and choose to involve yourself with or not, I’ve never had any issues or desires to step away.
I find this place endlessly entertaining and helpful, and frankly I’d not have anything like it to replace it with. 🤷🏼

Stick to the bike forum only?

You could use a browser extension to stop that page loading (or make difficult enough while the impulse passes).
