Mine's about to restart in about 14 minutes, apparently, and there doesn't seem to be anything I can do about it. Or is there?

try "shutdown -a" in either the run cmd line or open a "command prompt" (in accessories) and try typing it (you might need to right click the cmd prompt shortcut and choice " run as admin")

Pull the plug out first.
That'll show it who's boss!

Hold down CTR & ALT then keep hitting DEL, you want to be pressing it at least 10 times, that'll sort it.

It's windows 8.

I failed to keep it alive, it's now inching its way through a shed load of updates that'll help my computer run even slower. I'll try that command line thing when it comes back!

Do you never restart it? Perhaps thats why its running so slow. Especially as the 'turn off' option is pretty well hidden in 8.
