apologies in advance (i may have asked this a while ago/couldn't find it in my history though).
the fat card won't let you store anything over 1gb (as in one item over 1gb).
it is a sandisk 8gb micr sd card.
thanks 🙂
A programme that lets you create zip archives in multiple smaller units. 7zip probably does it. Was useful in the days when people had to use stacks of floppies, and is still used now for spanning CDs or DVDs.
Not sure why that would be, FAT32 should let you store up to 4Gb for a single file, try NTFS, might not work if your using it in a camera tho
Is it a genuine card or an el cheapo eBay special from the Far East? There's plenty of counterfeit cards kicking about that are smaller than they appear.
Different file systems impose different file size limits as per the above, but I can't offhand think of one which tops out at 1Gb.
FAT16 is the same 4Gb limit as FAT32, and FAT12 is in the order of megabytes (I forget what exactly, 32Mb maybe? Something like that). NTFS isn't limited for all practical purposes (I think the limit is in the order of ExaBytes).
I'd suggest it's a restriction of the device you're writing to it with, or a problem with the card. I'd be tempted to blow away the partition and rebuild it.
I've heard tell that some devices benefit from formatting by that device. This may just be anecdotal, but you could try formatting the card using your camera of phone or whatever you're using it in.
