Apart from loudly of course
They are due at Mr Coolhandluke mansion for a few days, staying in the small bedroom wing, en suite just across the landing.
They're both quite deaf and if you don't shout (well speak loudly at least), you repeat everything. It annoys EDIT (ok, it frustrates me little) me. I've said they should get their hearing checked but they just say there's nothing wrong with their hearing, they just won't listen (see what I did there?)
Any tactful advice would be great.
Mouth words at them.
Don't get annoyed at the old people would be my advice.
Whisper everything. Once.
my dad is the same, absolutely adamant its just me mumbling or the poor quality of the phone line, or he's in a noisy environment....the options go on and on!
My mum just invested in a cheap one for her Dad and just told him to try it out - he was impressed, but still rarely wears them!
Learn sign language and use it exclusively with them.
Shout!
Loudly.
Do you have kids?
Could you suggest to them that all the shouting in the house when thy are staying over is upsetting the kids and that you feel hearing aids would be a big benefit to them and that you will have to re-consider how often you invite them round to avoid upsetting the kids too much.
My mum and aunt did something similar with my gran, her TV was almost always at full volume and they were getting headaches after 20 minutes of visiting her so said they would not visit for more than 10 minutes till she started to wear the hearing aids.
1.14 in! 😀
If it was you, how long would it take you to go and get help?
Took my Dad a few years to realise.
And when/if they do ensure they get 'professional' help.
It took my mum about 15 years of shouting before she got one.
Don't get [s]annoyed[/s] frustrated with old people.
Do what you can to make it easier for them to hear and understand you.
Maybe, see a speech therapist.
How do I tell the MiL and FiL that they both need [s]hearing[/s] thinking aids? For me, anyway

Send them an email? or shout it at them very loudly?
Pardon ?
I'd ask MrsCHL to do it and then, every time they say 'pardon', get her to repeat what you just said for them.
Write it down.
Eh?
What was that, stop muttering, that tele's quiet, how can you hear it? Dont ice cream vans chime any more? There was nobody on the other end of the phone, I didnt hear the door bell, we nearly missed the boat because they didn't make an announcement to get on, you're quiet
YES, it's started already.
I promise not to get annoyed btw, that was a bad choice of words up above. It's frustrating as they're missing out on so much but don't know it.

Unsporting!
Get one of those bells like they have on hotel reception desks.
Every time they ask you repeat something, give the bell a loud ring.
It will help them realise how often it happens 🙂

Perhaps they just need their ears syringing?
Get them to Merton Beck Opticians in Widnes and I can test there hearing and dewax their ears if need be also give them a free trial of hearing aids 😀
Blessing in desguise, you can shag their daughter and make as much noise as you want.....and if you steal their glasses you can do it in the same room.
That sounds like a good idea.
(Originally meant the posts 2 above ^^^, but...)
What gets me is that when some one is talking, my daughter for instance, they start talking over them, I'm guessing because they can't hear her. It happened in the car just before, clearly they couldn't hear her or even realise she was taking because they couldn't see her.
I think it's sad really because they're missing out all the time.
There's no talking to them though. No pun intended.
maybe they're doing it for a laugh because it annoys you.
