I'm now the proud owner of a Avro Vulcan Mach Meter.
Are you going to put it on your bike?
Nah, mates 40th B'day present, so don't get to keep it
But really want to..
Is it one of those partworks where you get a bit each month?
blimey, your table's shifting !
I've got that wine glass
They contain active polonium
Debenhams I think, don't like to use them as Mrs Tiger thinks they shouldn't go in the dishwasher
I think that's cool - where d'you get things like that from?
blimey, your table's shifting !
Oh jolly good! 🙂
I've got that wine glass
Did you grab it as the table went past??
They contain active polonium
Is that true or taking the P>?
If so I'll get shut properly
Just read half life is 138 days, as this was made in the 60s.... It should be okay
polonium's fine - unless you drink it !
(edit, not nec. true but, you know ...)
Urgh. Jealousy overload.
As my dad worked at AVRO thoughout the 50's and 60's and reckons he worked on the instrumentation panels in every Vulcan that was built, there's a fair chance he's handled that very instrument.
😀
How cool?
That is ridiculously cool. Do you know it's history?
Nope, no history on it
Only joking
That's pretty cool. I think I'd keep it.
Lots of cool stuff at an auction not for from me next week. I don't think I'll go just in case.

Do all wine glasses contain polonium? Or just Pooks
There is a shop at the bottom of the hill near the Cathedral in Lincoln that sells lots of that sort of stuff.

Had me going for a minute, also as it's vacuum driven I did what any man would to get a reading. 😯

Is he still there? - Ace! I bought half a transit van-full of stuff from him about 10 years ago. At the time it felt a bit like he was winding the business down - it was quite difficult to cut through his despondent 'nobody buys this kind of thing anymore' chat with my 'I'll buy as much of this as I can carry - how much money do you want'
That reminds me - I think I have a gyroscope, altimeter and airspeed indicator out of a Shackleton in my parents house. Must dig them out sometime. They must be pretty rare?
I also have various compressor and turbine blades out of a Tornado's RB199 which is nice.
That shop is indeed still there; I used to buy various electronic bits years ago but I think Maplin put paid to that, so it's just a shop window (or two?) full of aircraft [s]junk[/s]components now. It's in an ideal part of town, I'm amazed it hasn't become a shop full of fancy teabags or something...
This thread is going to cost me a fortune. A ferret round Google and eBay has put me in touch with a man who has all manner of cool stuff like this.

I'm slightly curious about how exciting flying a Vulcan bomber was.

Have you been to the Dambusters pub in Scampton, Lincolnshire? You'd love it... 🙂
