Mrs D's car was ran into the back of this morning on the Bristol Ring road by an unmarked white lorry. After this happend, my wife did exactly NOTHING! No details, no pictures, didn't even get out of the car, just allowed the truck driver to drive away at the earliest convenience.

I mean, WTF?!

Now we're left with a car in need of a new rear bumper, possibly tailgate and almost certainly the rear crossbar. Chuffin brilliant. 🙄

lol, this was indeed bloody stupid.
What was her justification for letting mr lorry to just drive away?

If the truck driver didn't even approach her to check she was able to get out of the car, he's failed to stop and you need to report it ASAP to see if there is any CCTV knocking around.

PS: Your wife may have been in a bit of shock, but I can tell you're working on your sympathetic side. 🙄

I've passed the sympathy stage; that was first. Second was information gathering followed by incredulity, disbelief and a small amount of anger.

Her justification was that it was busy and she was late...

Not in full possession of the facts but sounds like....

She didn't LET the lorry drive away.

The lorry driver bolted of his own accord with no concern for the fact that he's rear ended a car , potentially rendering the occupant unable to get out.

Was your wife supposed to fling herself in front of a truck to prevent his escape.

Wife = shocked and a bit naive.
Lorry Driver = very bad man indeed. Bombers.

Report to police.

Leaving the scene of an accident?

Ah well, that sounds a bit daft, but shock can make you do the most irrational things sometimes.

He's still not provided his details to someone who clearly has reasonable grounds for requesting them. So report to police.

I'm not sure getting Mrs Daffy prosecuted will be the best option for marital relations.

It's the truck drivers fault for driving away. Even a minor accident can have huge effect on you causing you to do things out of character. I had a similar accident many years ago stopped at a red then 20-30 seconds later a 4x4 ran into the back of my car. My daughter in the back seat was completely unharmed but I jumped out and was probably about to kick seven shades out of the other driver which is very unlike me honest. Lucky for me a woman who had seen the whole thing intervened and we exchanged details over the roof of my car

LOL - I can imagine my Mrs doing just the same.
She came home once please as punch as she'd helped another commuter out on her ride home by supplying him with a tube to fix his puncture and then re-fusing payment for the tube. She then expected me to pay for another tube so she had a spare to commute with. 👿

Sorry, but didn't Mrs Daffy also "drive away at her earliest convenience"? especially if she was in a hurry to get somewhere. Seriously wondering how it works if neither driver does anything at the time to exchange driver details etc. Why does the truck driver (in this instance) get all the blame?

Mrs D didn't get out of the car, according to Daffy. I wonder if that means that she just drove away? For all we know the lorry driver was out of his vehicle walking around to check the damage when Mrs D scooted away, leaving him shrugging.

Now we're left with a car in need of a new rear bumper, possibly tailgate and almost certainly the rear crossbar.

Have you seen the car to verify this?

I know it doesn't take many posts for a thread like this to turn into victim-blaming but second sentence of the first post has got to be a record hasn't it?

Shock does strange things to people. The OP's missus is allowed to be a tad shaken given that a massive truck has shunted the back of her car.

It's definitely a hit and run, if the truck driver didn't stop to exchange details then it needs reporting ASAP.

Go easy on the missus...

Exactly - it was the Truck's reposibility stop - not hers to stop it.

I think you need to put this in perspective.

All you need is a new bumper.

Your wife on the other hand needs to go to all the hassle of finding a new husband. 🙂

Does sound like shock. Easy to fixate on the wrong thing and just wanting to carry on.

I've been driven into 4 times now (not my fault!) and the first time cost me more to make a claim on insurance including raised premiums than to fix it myself so for last 3 times I've just let it go. People are very grateful to be let off when they've done some stupid. None were particularly dangerous. All low speed.

This thread is a great example of how we each perceive the written word.

The white lorry has become a massive truck.

Only the woman could be in shock and make incorrect decisions following the accident.

The truck driver bolted but Mrs Daffy also left the scene. Not that we can tell who actually moved first from the OP.

Hope the missus is OK Daffy. Remember she might have some delayed symptoms.

😀

anyway, you are right. It is bloody stupid, in fact the stupidest thing i have seen for a long time! How ridiculously brain numb would you need to be to do something like that. What an idiot! The cost of that could be huge and to just carry on as if it was nothing. Seriously, stupid ****. How can anyone live with such an idiot! Deepest sympathies. What a moron!

As daft as the woman who received my bike box containing the bike her husband had just bought from me on Ebay and despite the obviously smashed-up condition of the box, signed for it "in good condition" meaning that when hubby opened it later and found the bike wrecked, TNT tried to wriggle out of the blame?

(I got the cost of the reapirs back from them but it was a battle)

Could be fair. Two were in stationary queues of traffic, once parked in a car park so limited options but even so...
