I hardly ever drive anywhere on weekdays now.
I'm heading off for SITS soon from Worcestershire. Tom Tom wants me to go via the North of Birmingham.
From what I remember from when I used to drive more, the M5/M6 area always used to be stationary on Friday afternoon.
Has it improved since the M6 Toll has opened ?
It's about 10 miles further via the M42 South of Birmingham. Would that be a better route for me ?
Swings and roundabouts really.
Both will be bloody awful on a friday afternoon. I pass through there on a friday but I don't leave Bristol til 6.30 when I'm almost certain to sail straight through the M5/M6 junction at 7.45/8pm.
You can view the motorway webcams on some traffic sites.
I drive from Solihull to Dudley every day of the week and always go round the south of Birmingham, it's longer but ALWAYS miles quicker. The M5 M6 junction will be a 1st gear job between 2.30pm and 6pm on a Friday afternoon.
Probably fairly slow at such a peak time, but considerably better since the active traffic management went online (hard shoulder at peak times etc). This is on my commute, and its rarely a major problem by the time I come through (1845ish), although Fridays are a bit worse than the other days of the week.
Hang on, you going in your Landy?
Then you won't notice the traffic slowing anyway...
