Hi there.
I’m trying to sell a bike. I’ve posted on Facebook, pinkbike and here. I think it’s a good bike at a good price. But I’ve had zero interest other than people wanting to send a courier with an envelope with cash.
What’s happening. Are people not buying at the moment. Am I out of touch? The bike I’m selling is pretty much brand new with 40% of the retail price.
Where are other people selling at the moment?
Has any one else has the scammers contact them?
Cheers

I’ve used FB marketplace with great success over the past couple of years. But I’ve currently got a bike listed and have had zero genuine interest. Not sure if this is because FB isn’t showing the listing to so many people or if the second hand market is just dead at the minute. Combination of both I suspect.
I usually post stuff on here and then if it doesn't sell in a week or so, I whack it on eBay.
Ebay.
Usually the answer to these sort of questions is that it’s not as desirable or as keenly priced as you think it is. Or you’re selling at the wrong time.
I expect eBay will give you the widest audience.
A lot of folk are pretty skint at the moment so the market may be shrinking. What’re you selling?

That's me. We're not starving but there's a voluntary ban on purchasing toys. There's plenty of people worse off than us and they're probably not looking for a new bike.
Unless you're selling a mega expensive rich kid bike and it's just in last seasons colours. Can't been seen in the Surrey Hills on a previous model Bronson or something can you?
Gumtree, yesterday 🙂
But it's been up for weeks here, Pinkbike, Retrobike and Bike Radar as well without a nibble.
Just advertise widely and wait for that one real buyer that you need.
Ebay, but wait until there's a £1 listing or 80% off fees offer. Be prepared to post it and you'll find a buyer. With the price of fuel as it is £50 for paisley freight to drop you a box and bubble wrap and then come back the next day and deliver it seems a good deal.

Worked for me a couple of weeks back.
Mentioned it was for sale on a what bike do I want type thread.
Price was keen and it went nae bother.
careful with FB. lad had his bike nicked after advertising on their and sharing his address for viewing. gone same night.

I just got rid of my old bike and made sure I met somewhere neutral, had several very keen people that stop messaging as soon as I said would meet them away from my house.

Got ghosted when I mentioned the postcode I’d given was a supermarket car park round the corner (having agreed a price and time of collection)
The market is defo very quiet atm so I assume people are watching what they spend?
Just sold a couple of frames and advertised them across FB, Retrobike and Pink Bike before also putting the modern frame on ebay. Very little interest, except the FB scammers (at work so I'll send YODEL round with money) before genuine buyers came in for them both via FB. From memory I had no other firm interest.
Raised enough to re-invest in a new frame though. 🙂
