Makes me want to bungee cord a flock of drones together
It's a bit noisy.
That's blown my mind, and has got me looking at loads of Guinness World Records on youtube now. This is definitely the weirdest one I've found yet...
I think that hoverboard is some kind of spoof....
I'd still prefer Marty's myself.
This is an interesting simple hoverboard project:
Self Balancing Scooters are not hoverboards. But what is so cool is that real hoverboards are already invented. The video is exciting. They really float man, nice. 🙂
kulayberde, lexus hoverboard is based on semi-conductor technology, which means it's highly expensive, need a surface to run on it(it's not visible on the video) and need to be cool down with nitrogen to work for a couple of minutes.
I find that extremely complicated, I don't thing will ever be in mass production.
Superconductors, not semiconductors - it's possible that room temperature superconductors might be found, making it a bit more practical. Not much, though, as you still need a steel plate to hover over.
Op's video - "and so the Green Goblin is born"
It does look like great fun. However I'd rather have that new jet pack.....

How about a modern version of James and the Giant Peach?
bencooper, you corrected me right:) But you still make an assumption that are not reasonable yet, like working on room temperature(while lexus one's works at -321 F degrees).
I want to correct you too, that's not a simple steel plate track, it's a magnetic track, similar like maglev train.
So, if you want to have a track to run over it then I better choose the hendo hoverboard:
ArcaBoard- £19,900, you need to weigh <82kg, keeps you aloft for 6 minutes and is absolutely pigging massive:
(actual demo starts at 1.50)
shermer75, this looks like marketing to me, a lot of it 🙂
I also believe that video it's not real true, because at that amount of thrust(generated by 36 edf's) you should probably see the bushes near by the road moving around and dust floating(and it's not only that).
@sielram, yes the lexus hoverboard still needs a magnetic track below. For now, the technology is not yet ready for mass production. It was created as a part of their car advertisement, for a stunt. An ideal hoverboard is still a dream for now.
You are so right, kulayberde. Lexus(and all magnetic levitation concepts) is the best project how a hoverboard should look and behave, it's so pity that can't be used in real life soon. Probably air cushion it's an affordable technology, but looks to be not cool enough.
Jeez the voiceover in that video made me turn it off before any supposed hover boarding happened
