So I am old, out of touch and past it - we all knew that 🙂

But I want some recommendations for some house tunes / mixes / djs please. Must be someone here who can help an old man.

I like a bit of Frankie Knuckles, Louie Vega, Dmitri from Paris, Bob Sinclair

Ta

TJ, take a look at this fella (me mate)

www.podomatic.com/profile/lukevegas13

Can't link it properslike cos' work won't let me. He's into deephouse stuff and links his page to all genres of "house" Downloads are free.

Or indeed SoundCloud, he's on there too and again links off by genre to all sorts.. A lot of Euro DJ's stick stuff up on here and it's gettting a decent reputation for being a first listen to outlet.. lots of free downloads...

Thoroughly looking forward to our annual pilgrimage to see the living legend that is Graeme Park at Christmas. Among many other things, the old Fantazia House Collection mix he did was top notch.

Ok TJ, the obvious port of call is just go and buy some Hed Kandi compilations. They do everything from really chilled out, through funky up to dirty and electro. So go check a few out.

More recent stuff, check out Azuli for their compilation albums. Again a good vatiety, usually more underground than Hed Kandi.

That should keep you busy for a few weeks at least. After that we can start to get a bit more specialist... Oh and check out soundcloud too, great for finding new music on...

Hed Kandi and Azuli stuff is just awful. Pisspoor funky house.

Decent stuff can be found here: http://www.undergroundhouse.net/old_site/

Oh and by the way

through funky up to dirty and electro

The crap they churn out isn't electro.

This is electro.

Some people like stuff with a groove and a bassline as such, they don't want to stand around stroking their beards talking about "keeping it real" with a load of other nerdy 40 something year old blokes. I will admit there are a few rubbish tunes as such that come out on both, but for someone wanting a bit of an introduction to more recent house music that is reasonably accessible, they're excellent places to start.

The way some people go on about it, you'd think there's never been a good House tune since about 1996!

It's all about filthy electro house at the moment. Check out lazy rich, porter robinson and of course the mighty skrillex!

If you want something a bit more chilled then look at blue six, booka shade, masters at work, miguel migs and of course st germain.......

oh and don't listen to the old farts saying that house music is no good anymore, there is loads of good stuff coming out at the moment. Admittedly it went a bit pants in the noughties, but is coming back with superb tunes.

I know it's a bit obvious but this album is considered a classic, and worth it for the song for life section alone 🙂 Don't know if it's still deleted, but I'll sell you my copy for 32 quid 😉

Hed Candi and Azuli have always been about crowd pleasing cheese, if that's what you like then good on you, but don't go confusing it with good music.

Hed Kandi brought out a couple of half decent albums when they first started and then lost the plot and became dire. I went to a Hed Kandi night years ago, one of the shittest nights I have ever been to.

Keep living in the 80's elf. Everyone else has moved on. If you can't appreciate MAW, you ain't really into house.

So far you have posted up a load of cack, where as everyone else is posting good tunes. Get a grip man 😛

Hahaha, nice one! Whilst I'll admit that within House Music circles, they are of course seen as the more commercial labels out there, many of the artists linked to within this thread so far have appeared on Hed Kandi or Azuli compilations so far.

I've never understood the British Phenomenon of slagging artists, labels or even whole genres of music off once they become popular. OK, I can understand slagging a total sellout like David Guetta off as the once great man is busy fuelling my fire of hatred for the commercial R&B driven pop world we live in today, but Hed Kandi and Azuli are big because they were good at bringing some pretty decent (and some shit) house music to the lesser educated masses. Besides, Masters at Work have featured on at least one CD by Hed Kandi before, as have many other highly revered artists.

Sometimes, I know it's hard to believe in this day and age of Cowell and reality TV driven dross, music becomes popular quite simply just because it is good!
