Following on from my logistics query post, the ferry option to France is looking like daft money so plan a, is Tesco vouchers on the Chunnel.
We might do the uk leg, Chunnel then a couple of hours in France before stopping for the night to get the driving 50/50.
Any pointers of towns or even hotels, bike friendly?
Thanks
We usually go for an F1. There is one in every big town right by the motorway. Basic but cheap and clean. If McDonalds did hotels. There are other similar places that are a little better like hotel B&B but they are largely much the same. Drive until late, stop, sleep, get going again in the morning. If you want to eat do so earlier as its hard to find much outside the city centres. I think we've stopped in every single one between Calais and the Alps over the years. They don't have bike storage but you can take it into your room if its on a rack.
Three hours will get you to Reims which is actually quite a nice old city if you do want something nicer but there are plenty of basic motels at the motorway exits for the easy option
We did the Holiday Inn in the centre of Reims - there was a great restaurant just up from the Cathedral. I can't remeber the details, sorry.

We have avoided many of the typical F1 and chain hotels, as they do not guarantee a parking space, and we had an issue coming back at an Ibis that wouldn't let us bring bikes in. I don't think I slept that night, worried that the bikes on the car, in the street, wouldn't be there in the morning.
We have used a couple of air bnb's, ones out of town.
This one was ace - private yard she closed gate on car, so I didn't take bikes off - https://www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/4017642?guests=1&adults=1
And this one was just simple cabin, again with private drive and so welcoming (they left a *lot* of food for us!)

I'd go for a more upmarket hotel than an F1, not hard..... One with ensuite facilities for a start.
Heard too many stories of people pissing in the sinks cos they couldn't be arsed to walk up the corridor 😮 🙂
Reims by the Carrefour by the autoroute.
Full set of Accor hotels from F1 to Novotel (and some others) and a large supermarket for stocking up, two minutes off the road you’ll be driving anyway.
