Me and Mrs S. Stayed in Liverpool on Saturday and a very nice stay it was too. However as with every other hotel we've stayed in recently, shower time was perilous. Hotel showers seem to have 3 settings:

1. Liquid nitrogen.
2. Oooooh just lovely.
3. Superheated steam

The problem is, by the time you've found setting no. 2, you've already been hospitalised with full thickness burns from 1. or 3.

What am I doing wrong??

I find that putting my hand in first and testing the temperature can be of benefit.

In the last two weeks I've stayed in three hotels that had great showers.

Some automatically vary backwards and forwards between ice cold and thermonuclear too.

Most have the shower head designed for clientèle of a maximum height of 5ft3 too. Which is annoying for people of a normal height of 6ft+

The shower I used in an [otherwise] pleasant campsite the other week had proximity controls for temp up, down and power - AT ELBOW HEIGHT.

I swore a lot.

Travelodge aren't great at many things, but by god their showers are good- one of the ones I stayed in is the only shower I've had to turn the power down on as it wanted to strip my skin off my flesh.

As somebody who travels a lot for work, and has stayed in a lot of (usually crap) hotels, I never get in the shower until I'm happy it is running at the right temp.
some are great, but others are just crap.
I've also experienced the liquid nitrogen/superheated steam effects and can't say I enjoy it.

Dependent on the hotels water supply (and method of heating) the temp can go up and down as other guests switch their showers on and off.

people of a normal height of 6ft+

thems would be giants.
and what about ladyshapes? I'm not sure 6ft+ for them would be considered normal.

Stay in a better hotel and get the concierge to set the shower 'just so' for you.

All the recent hotels I have stayed in recently(various central London Park Plaza's and a De Vere hotel) have had great showers but unfathomable TV's.

What you've neglected to mention is that the distance between absolute zero and nuclear fusion on the shower dial is about 6 microns.
You so much as fart in its general direction and it'll go from toasty to the bit of Terminator 2 where the shapeshifting robot steps in the liquid nitrogen in a nanosecond.

I stayed in a hotel this weekend and I always delight in opening the bedside drawer to see the pristine untouched Gideon Bible in there. Imagine my alarm when I opened the drawer to find a Thomson Local Directory in there! What kind of religion is this?!?!

I stayed in some uni halls once when I was about 8. They were let out as hotel type accommodation between terms.

Found panties and a syringe in the drawer.
Told my folks.
We left.

retro - absolument! I did neglect to mention that. You attempt some fine tuning with tiny, deft adjustments and suddenly it goes all Chernobyl Reactor 4 on yo' ass!

I believe Dave is also banning W**king in hotel showers as well. You'll have to opt in when you check in or else be heavily fined.

I managed to stay in a posh hotel once with a 'full body shower' which basically was a series of water cannons mounted on the wall aiming at the shower screen door.

No way to adjust the pressure.
No way to test the temperature before scalding/freezing

No shower curtain or windows on the room so showering while watching the woman in the room opposite undressing was initially exciting and then very embarrassing as she looked across and waved at me.

Sounds interesting, where was this (purely interested for research purposes)?

I have just spent 8 weeks in a hotel in Benin City Nigeria, the shower head used to clog up with silt, then the pumps would fail, one day they brought me a huge barrel of water to my room, i reckon about 40-50 litres, the guy who brought it up 2 storeys was built like a sparrow and didn't spill a drop, you could have made a brew with it was that hot, I had to sit sweating in me undies for an hour whilst it cooled and then they re-started the pumps! !
