Park Plaza is nice if someone else is paying.

There must be a Premier Inn.

Hilton is nice, or Park Plaza as above, either if someone else is paying.

What's your budget? Is work paying? And do they put a cap on it?

There's a Hilton across from the Castle, but on the other side of the castle is the beautiful Cathedral Road which is replete with small, private hotels in palatial Victorian terraces.

Dunno on budget, but it'll be top end public sector, so I'm going to ask for Park Plaza.

Stayed in Park Plazza with work last Tuesday. NCP carpark posited was £24 overnight! Hotel was fine, bar was good, good breakfast spread. No complaints.

@geoffj: Cardiff offers good riding. You bringing a bike?

Sadly not - flying visit (literally) with colleagues. Might just about get out for a run if I'm lucky.

In which case, Hilton has a good gym with a pool. I used to be a member.

St James hotel and spa. It's down the bay which is a short train ride or a short walk to town.

Hilton is opposite the park, you can run up the Taff trail as far as you have the legs for - if you want to run ten miles or more you could end up out in the woods.

Holiday Inn right by Cardiff Castle in city centre usually in budget for civil service unless rugby is on. Hilton and Park Plaza outside my Dept's budget.

I like the Novotel down toward the Bay. About a 5-10 minute walk to St Davids shopping area. Nice swimming pool/gym as well.
