Got a head cold coming on and going to have a toddy and an early night. A choice of Tyrconnell, 2 Juras, Laphroag, Coleraine, Bushmills and Grants. I'm happy with Grants, hot water and honey. Got any good alternative toddy recipes?

I always put posh stuff in lemsip. Mainly because it winds whisky snobs up 🙂

wind away. though it's your cash you're burning 🙂
define posh. Macallan Gold - run of the mill round here. get it cheap in the local petrol station.
Macallan Green or Blue or whatever - that *is* a wind up !!

define cheap. Glen Moray / Aldi type single malt is what £17, not bad for chucking in toddys.
Worth it for a bit of bite to get something a bit meatier.

True!

Caol Ila 18 is currently my whisky of choice for lemsip.

Honestly, I'd get a bottle of Benedictine.

If I was using whisky I'd want something phenolic like LP, failing that I'd use crap like Bells or some other cooking whisky.

You're a mentalist, unless you've got the two in separate glasses.

For my hot toddys I use a cheap malt (Aldi is fine) with a generous 2finger measure, crush up a decent slice of ginger in a mortar n' pestle, half a squeezed lemon and a good pinch of turmeric, top it off with a crushed paracetamol and blast in the microwave for a few seconds, top up with hot water to taste

Saying that I haven't had a genuine need for a hot toddy for years as I can't remember the last time I had a cold/sore throat but on a dark winters night after a wet ride there is something very comforting about it.

I would go for a big measure of the laphroag. Room temperature will be fine. Don't bother with honey and lemon, it's not a pancake. Enjoy!

Personally I use honey, hot water and cloves then add a cheap blend until the cloves start to sink. Effective if/when coughing has given you a sore throat.
