Hot holiday with cycling at Easter?

In my annual quest for holiday advice, myself and the wife are looking for a (relatively) hot holiday at Easter ( has to be during school hols as both teachers). We are looking for somewhere where my wife and lounge by the pool, but I can find some local trails for mtb/gravel/trail running.

We’re thinking Canary Islands, Balearic Islands or similar. We’ve spend ages looking but without recommendations it’s hard to choose. Probably fly from Bristol.

Any suggestions? We’d consider a package deal or self-catering or Air BnB.  Thanks in advance.

We've been to Majorca at Easter a few times, it's not really hot enough for pool lounging.

I agree, the Med generally will be 'pleasant' maybe high teens temperatures, the Canaries being closer to the equator will be warmer. But still not hot. Only long-haul, like Florida, Texas will be high 20s in March.  https://weatherspark.com/y/31716/Average-Weather-in-Las-Palmas-de-Gran-Canaria-Spain-Year-Round

But still not hot

Not sure I completely agree. I was on Gran Canaria at the start of April and was having to go out before the sun came up because it was so hot. Even then it was 22c an hour before sunrise. The road climb from Mogan just as it was getting light was pretty special though.

Have been to Lanzarote just out of season, and weather great, cycling good, but lacking in atmosphere for folks by the pool as few others around

Thanks, good points about temperatures.

Southern end of Gran Canaria is warmer than the north. Also the temperature doesn't vary much throughout the year at all, maybe about 6℃ or so in it.

Lanzarote is hotter because it's closer to the Sahara.

If you're road riding Cyprus may be an option. I wouldn't bother if you want to go mountain biking though; I found it somewhat lacking when I tried it.

Ta. Definitely mountain biking, or at least gravel.

Anyone got any hotel or apartment recommendations?

I stayed in Gran Canaria at the end of March this year. I had a couple of guided MTB rides with a company called Free Motion - shuttle into the mountains and then a ride all the way back to the shop (80% singletrack, 15% on gravel and one road climb of a few kms on a minor road). I really enjoyed it - great views from the mountain trails, good fun on dry rocky trails, and several sections of proper challenging techy stuff. The rides left from their main shop in Maspalomas, but I was staying in Puerto Mogan where there is a satellite shop in the hotel (Cordial Mogan Playa) - and they provided a free transfer over and back. Rental bikes were Stumpjumpers, and in good condition (they also swapped the brakes round without a charge). Temperature was mid-20s.

But i'd say that Madeira is even better - and with a much wider range of terrains and trails to ride. Just have a look at Freeride Madeira online - can't recommend highly enough. Weather similar to Gran Canaria, maybe a wee bit cooler.

Tenerife with Lavatrax or Madeira with Freeride Madeira. Probably more chance of Madeira being moist.

Gran Canaria sounds perfect!

I'm here at the moment. 🙂

Most cyclists head down to Maspalomas which is very much the tourist hub of the island, there are several bike hire place down there which all do Road, Gravel and MTB hire as well as guided rides and shuttle buses.

Maspalomas is also known for its huge sand dunes - although just watch which bits you end up in as a family cos it's got various nudist and/or gay sections!
