Can anyone give me the pit falls of the CRV in the 2.2 i-dtec .I know the newer ones are a 1.6 and 120-160 bhp in 2 or 4 wheel drive but the last run 2.2s without all the euro 6 rubbish are where my interest lies. Im looking at the auto for lazy driving and most of the time it will be spent on the M6 Lakes bound. Just thinking what they are like on fuel.
Not great. But a lovely thing to drive. I loved mine
Steady 50mpg on our '13 plate 2.2 manual. It's a nice thing to drive all things considered. Satnav is useless, some signs of rust beginning to show (it's going in for a waxoyl treatment in the spring) and the screen wash bottle is the smallest of any vehicle I've known and constantly needs filling. Other than that ours has been pretty solid.
I've been looking at CR-Vs for a few weeks now, bit I'm after a very late gen 2 or a gen 3. MOT history of most of them shows corrosion being an issue. The latter ones might be better, though
Rust
@jamesmio I take it yours is the gen 4 with the more squared off back . Ive seen a fair few low milage versions knocking about but some are still being asked at a premium .

Sounds like the 7th gen Civic I had. Think it was something daft like 3 litres if that.
Can't kill mine. 190k '09 diesel. Passed it's last MOT without even an advisory. So we changed the oil rather than throw it away! Not ULEZ compliant, which is the issue for us.
Solid 48mpg in 2.2 manual that my dad owns. '08 plate with 209k miles on it, cracking motor. Touch wood no big bills just usual wear and tear, some parts can be a bit expensive though. Nice place to sit, lazy drive even in manual, decent spec for its age. As said above though, the sat nav is terrible, i keep trying to tempt him in to an android auto headunit but he's a techno ludite.
I'd have one tomorrow if I needed to replace my Yeti.
Always felt a little bit like sitting in a tractor from the driving position whenever I drove my parents one. Did 190k before rust killed it though, 20 years or so. Amazingly practical though for the money.
Ulez isnt a problem for me I hate the urban enviroment so city driving can shove it . I best get hunting
Good friend has an 06 plate from nearly new that has been really good for him. Work colleague had a MK2 that died from rust.
Mk3's were on my radar awhile back but the ones I looked at were fairly rusty underneath especially on the rear subframe. Otherwise good cars just make sure you buy some Fertan and Bilt Hamber S50, don't bother with Waxoyl it's useless.
My parents have had a string of CRVs through the models - first two were the 2.2 diesels and now they’ve got the petrol/electric hybrid version.
They have been very pleased with them - no issues encountered - the fact they keep coming back to buy a newer version of the same thing says a lot.
The only rust on mine is along the side panels where Son1 put it into a crash barrier! Interiors seem to last. This is our second. I preferred the Mk2 we had before (took bikes upright inside), but the diesel engine died at 125k due to timing chain and big end bearings. The Mk3 has never missed a beat. New clutch at 110k and a new alternator at 120k. That’s been it. Bought at 50k in 2012. As I said it won’t die. Son2 is borrowing it at the moment while he saves for a car of his own.

we’re just outside the zone. So go in and out quite a bit. Frustrating to be honest, so we bought something nicer.
Hated my MkIII CRV - the only car I’ve ever had that I could have pushed off a cliff without a 2nd thought.
Had it just under a year and in the end I just left it at the garage for them to dispose of. Took my stuff out and walked away.
If you get a good one they go on and on - get a bad one and it will drive you insane.
Wallowy, shit, unconnected drive too.
It was so bad I bought a Freelander with 200k on the clock - night and day difference in driving experience. And I know they have a bad rep, but at least there’s a good supply chain and people who know how to fix them. Honda main dealer couldn’t even fix an issue on my CRV.
IMO of course! 🤣
My 61 plate 2.2 diesel was faultless, a great tow car as well. Only changed it recently as I needed a newer diesel motor that would see me ok for the next 10 years. Interior marks very easily as it uses recycled plastic in a lot of trim
