[Closed] Homeplug Geeks - Dropout?

So I've just bought a pair of new homeplugs "TP Link 1200mbps" from amazon: Amazon Link

They are good for an hour or 2 then they drop out. I have to stop my network connection to ethernet on the mac and restart it to get them to continue working.

The wifi has been faultless but I wanted to use homeplugs to disable the wifi network.

Are the homeplugs faulty or is something more geeky going on?

*both plugs are directly into sockets and have 1/2 meter of ethernet cable run to the router (bt homehub) and desktop.

House was built in the mid 90s and I can't imagine the wiring is in anything other than good condition.

Thanks!

Got Devolo homeplugs.
Small, semi detached house.
Not reliable - seem to drop two or three times a day - fairly random times.
My friend has units by same manufacture and has same issue.
Eventually they reconnect.
The killer is there is no logging or auditing so you cant "see" why they dropped connection.
Run a cable or stick to wifi. Or maybe not.

I had the same problem with a variety of different makes.

In the end I bought a wireless access point to provide a wired connection.

Not much help, but homeplugs seem very temperamental.

Conversely I recently went from a wireless extender / AP to homeplugs and AP and its been MUCH better.

I have/had a set of Devolos and they didn't noticeably drop out over literally years of use.

Like anything, I suspect YMMV.

I've been using TP Link network extenders for years. The last time I had to do anything to them was when I last plugged them in - 4 years ago.

Seems like YMMV...

Been using homeplugs for 10 years.

Have had only one intermittent issue: one pair of Solwise-branded plugs would occasionally not resync after power-cut. Replaced by Solwise.

And one non-intermittent: plugin wife's ebay-special laptop charger in would cause homeplugs to drop-out.

Now on TP-Link AV2000 and been stable for a few months. Cheaper than direct ethernet wiring in my case.
