Yes yes, i know it's been done to death, but i just have a quick question about home insurance, and am seeking the advice of the STW collective.
Mrs Pinetree & I are buying our first house together. It's rather an old house, 2 bedroom, mid-terrace, and the front is grade 2 listed.
It's not particularly expensive (relatively speaking) and the only reasonably valuable things in there will by my bikes.
Been given a couple of quotes, which seem to be coming in around the 275-300 quid a year mark (around 20-25 quid a month)
The standard policies seem to all be fairly similar, with the buildings and contents cover being more than sufficient for our needs, and offering excesses of 250 for buildings, 100 for contents.
Does that sound about right? this is the first time i've had to buy buildings and contents cover, so I'm sort of unsure what to be looking out for.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Cheaper than mine... but do check the contents value of your house. many of the companies have online calculators. I did this and found out I was horribly underinsured. Imagine losing everything from the clothes you wear to the bikes you ride to the chairs you sit on. It adds up to a s*** load of cash. Yes, it's half an hour online which could be spent doing something else, but worth it. Also check the buildings bit covers the listing status and it is for rebuild value. God, I'm starting to bore myself.
The listed bit is a pain. I now use a broker as most websites won't give a quote if it's listed and some won't quote at all.
Currently with AXA but previously Ecclesiastical which were pretty cheap.
