fed up with the constant rebooting of the homehub3 in order to get a reliable service.

Can anyone recommend a router to replace the BT homehub and infinity modem in a single (reliable) box that does does 802.11a/n?

thanks!

Are you on normal or fibre broadband?

I'm interested in the answer for fibre regardless of what M1llh0use says...

I am using one of these to replace a BT Openreach modem and TalkTalk router for my fibre broadband.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Billion-8800NL-Gigabit-Wireless-Router/dp/B00K6D2ESM

For TalkTalk I followed the instructions in one of the reviews to get it up and running.

Has not missed a beat in the three months since purchase.

There appears to be a newer version now.

Homehub 5 is actually pretty good as ISP-supplied ones go, and it's all in one box. Works fine with non-BT services.

Plenty on ebay, mine was under £40.

Home Hub 3 suggests he's on ADSL2+ so a HH5 would be no good.

The HH 4 is also very good.

yes, it's for an infinity (FTTC) connection.

What makes you think its the router that is at fault and not the actual service itself?

Contact BT tell them the issues you're having with the router, sometimes they send you a newer model for free.

only once in a blue moon do you need to reset the modem element. the HH consistently drops wireless connections, leading to the conclusion that the service provider element is hunkey dorey

Home Hub 5 is pretty good, I bought one on Ebay last year to replace my ISP supplied one and it vastly improved my signal round the house, which was previously rubbish due to think walls.
I actually have a brand new one for sale as I've just moved to BT and been given a new one, which I don't need. £40 posted?

I though BT Routers / Hubs were all locked down so they only worked with BT supplied connections, based on the service username and password? I'd surprised if they worked with other ISP supplied services.

Have a look at a draytek Vigor2860n, it will replace both the BT router and modem.

They're [s]Netters[/s] Netgears so just need the software changed.

Nope, mine worked mine on Plusnet, albeit that is BT supplied. However from memory the HH5 has all the settings to adjust it to whatever ISP you like, if I recall when they launched it BT were pushing it quite hard as an aftermarket item regardless of supplier.

No worries, I was going to Ebay it tonight but will hold off till next week just in case, easier than listing and having to pull it.

Does the HH5 still force you to provide BTOpenzone Access points if you are connected to another ISP?

I would very much doubt it, and there was never any openzone networks visible around my house while I was using the home hub on Plusnet.
Now I've moved to BT it does, but it doesn't force you, there is now an option to opt out.
