Turned on my laptop, clicked the IE button and it wouldn,t connect to the internet, so i clicked my signal button showing networks (wireless), mine was not on there, however a weird name i dont recognise locally was then within seconds disappeared and my connection showed and laptop connects ok. The weird looking name is nowhere to be seen on the local connections.

So is this something to worry about, a glitch or what?

My home wireless stuff is password protected.

Could be a conflict if a neighbour is broadcasting their wifi on the same channel. Try restarting your router and most should look for the channel without conflict.

Could be a number of things...Your SSID may be hidden (a feature on routers). Or your connecting to a hidden unsecured router perhaps in error?

Yeah, worth checking the channels.

There's an app called inssider which will show channels and signal strengths so you can pick a clear channel. There's mobile apps too.

Thanks for that. Just popped back on and the weird name is showing as a weak signal but seperate channel. I suspect it is the network of one of my neighbours across the road who hail from eastern europe so all is good.
