Our home insurance is coming up for renewal. The existing company have hiked their prices, so we are shopping around.

We have a number of bikes we wish to cover (as the current provider does), but it appears that on many of the comparison sites, despite putting in all the details and values, once you transfer to the companies direct site, they either dont cover the bikes, or to a much lower value. (we have 1 x £7000, 1 x £4000 then a couple at around £2000).

So who do you use to cover your home and bikes?

Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

Mine are covered under our Aviva home and contents cover up to £3k per individual bike, at a cost of £147 onto the annual premium. The excess is £350. They're covered against theft, loss or damage internationally under this, as long as they were 'properly secured', whatever that means.

I think i chose the value they were insured for so i'm sure they'd cover ones up to 7k if you specified that.

Ours are specified items with the Esure home insurance. Think the total across the four of us is something like £16k of bikes covered for £120 premium.

To be honest, it got such a ballache trying to get comparison quotes this year I went with the renewal, it was in the ballpark.

So who do you use to cover your home and bikes?

Home insurance for the Home, and Bike insurance for the bikes.

I've not read a single thread on here (of the hundreds posted) thats ever convinced me that a single Home Insurance Co gives the level of cover I need/want for multiple expensive bikes.

Back with Pedalcover myself.

I'm aware they may not work for everyone, but you can ring up and talk through your needs with a real person in Wales.

Nationwide for us. We paid an extra £75 to cover circa £15ks worth of bikes. Renewal is in September so fingers crossed there won’t be a big price hike this year

Read the small print, every time.

I'm with Aviva for contents, including bikes up to £4k.
I'm then separate for buildings, which saves a lot.

Nationwide here as well. If you have something else with them (bank account, mortgage etc) then you get a discount.

They also do out & about cover, ie when you're away from home. You have to tell them about any bike over £1k, can't remember what their total limit is but you should be fine.

Bikes are covered if they are inside your home (including garage/shed) or locked to something immoveable when away from home. No requirement on type/strength of lock.

I've claimed with them in the past for a stolen bike, was very easy and stress-free, they even reminded me to include the cost of the broken lock!

I keep going and looking at pedal cover.

Just got a house and bike quote and separate bike only. They are not that cheap. Also they are only a broker

Just tried Nationwide, their limit is £5k although they will put it through to underwriters. If you can be bothered to go through a telephone quotation process and wait up to 48 working hours for a response.

Lloyds. They're not too fussy over the security either.

Halifax (sort of) cover mine under the home insurance. Max 5k per bike and max £10k over all.

Weirdly, they're not fussed about security. No specific door or lock requirements. The chap on the phone said it made no difference being in the garage or being in a shed.

He also confimed they're covered for accidental damage so apparently if I bend it on a tree, it's covered.

I wonder whether anyone's ever actually claimed on that? How'd it go?

PedalCover

Never again after a shocking experience when trying to claim, lied too and given fake insurance policy cover certificate. Apparently all 'a mistake', and apparently fine to change the underwriter, but my fault for calling the claim phone number on the fake/old policy certificate instead of calling PedalCover to see who I really was insured by...

Just checked my M&S policy and it cost £50 to add bike up to £9K (£15K maximum is available but not sure what that would add to premium - possibly nothing more than the £50)

Go to a broker and tell them your requirements. We use Lansdown at the moment.

the price comparison sites are useless if you have any unusual stuff. A broker will find you a suitable policy and it doesnt cost you any more to use them.

My Swindon policy has more than doubled since last year and I’ve had no claims .
I’ll start having a look around again .

Go through Quidco and get quotes from Sainsbury’s and M&S home insurance.

Unlimited bikes up to £15k I think (each).

I went with Sainsbury’s this time. Around £250 for buildings/contents and 5 bikes including an 11k ebike.

Then I got £40 back from Quidco.

M&S were cheapest for me (any 1 bike up to £15k, max £50k total) only a 60% increase on previous provider, who were wanting a 100% increase.

After years with M and S we spent the last eight years with Pedalcover. Due to the four of us in the family we needed quite a bit of cover for the fleet

March this year an the renewal premium went up by more than £1000. Was told it was due to change of underwriters.Got a quote from M and S over the phone and discussed the bikes in detail as above only had to specify dearest bike up to 15k. Saved the £1000 and another £800 cheaper than last years premium

Those with M&S, it appears you dont have to list each bike when doing an online quote. Did you just go with it? Or am i missing some small print and my bikes wont be covered? Or do they just assume that if its under the max value of the cover, they will just pay out?

I ultimately want 4 bikes covered that range from £700 to about £8000.

We gave a list, not sure they actually asked for one, iirc they only took the value of the most expensive.

I have a list and asked if they wanted it. Didn't need it but they ask what the price of the dearest bke would be on a new for old basis.

They were extremely helpful on the phone

Has anyone used

https://www.eversure.com/cycle/

They are just a sales agent selling breakdown cover as well as bike insurance etc. The underwriters are a big company. Only want £140 to cover my bike compared to £270 from PedalCover.

Some of their reviews are bad to say the least, but is this just general internet ?

Tried to contact eversure and no response.

Just spoke to this company  https://www.cycleplan.co.uk/ and got through to a human. underwritten by Aviva too. Cheaper than the above too and good reviews.

I am with Halifax, cover up to £10k worth of bikes, and I have 3 individually listed.

Renewal has just come through - it has gone up £40 from last year, but don't think I will get much better, so will likely stay with them again.
