Buildings is up so off I go to confused. Quote is £200 Vs renewal of £300. My contents has lapsed so I get a quote for that £125.

I then get a combined quote for £150

WTF?

It's nuts. Our buildings & contents is also up (AA) new renewal with them is £175 yet when I check online it's over £200 & with Go Compare can get same for £125.

It's weird how the insurance companies don't want to keep you as a customer. Be so much easier if they just price matched, or reduced your previous year's policy, but they always bung it up. Maybe the scumbags make a load of profit from people who still just renew with the same company... out of laziness? or inability to use the web?
Mine went up £50, so I confused.com it and got it £40 cheaper than last year, so saved £90!
There must be some scam they're running. Legal scammers that they are.

My house and contents insurance has gone down by almost £200 a year without me doing anything. I thought it weird but thats what has happened

It's so easy to plug your details into a compare the market type thing, and every year you just press a button to generate new quotes.

I have moved every year and saved about average 75 quid on the renewal costs, because it's easier than ringing up and begging for a better price.

Daft.

The first year price is a loss leader. If renewal prices didn't bump up the first year price would have to be higher so they can break even. The insurance industry as a whole has been running at a loss for years, so it's hardly going into profiiiiiit

Meanwhile, anyone willing to spend 5 minutes a year to hop provider is subsidised. They're all mad.

They rely on people being lazy and not hoing on prive comparison sites. They don't give a monkeys if you stay.

Enough people are lazy so there is more profit in them keeping renewal prices high.

I'm not surprised.

Reasonable home and contents renewal quote came through from Legal and General. Called up to make the payment - turns out after waiting for 25 minutes on hold that they have no facility to process renewal payments on their customer support phone number. Promised a phone call within 3 days to take payment.

Nothing (that was a fortnight ago).

Went to another company. Paying slightly more, ironically.

Do Direct Line/John Lewis give good cover for lots of or expensive bikes? I thought Pedal Cover did that but their renewals go up alot each year so looking for alternatives. IME the comparison sites start cheap but as soon as you adjust a policy for bikes, the premium goes up loads.

I don't insure ours, all our MTBs are > 10 years old and worthless (26")...

To be honest, getting them stolen would clear out some space, so I wouldn't be that bothered....

Go and move to a thatched cottage, then you can complain about home insurance. Mine is over £1,000 a year with no real options other than using one provider (NFU)

I don't believe that! How come they pay out £5K for a £200 bumper repair without checking on it then?

Most insurance companies now insure expensive bikes as specific items, you just have to check they have that facility before buying. Mine's with Sheila's Wheels now. Though it's not for a car driven by a female 🙂

because it’s easier than ringing up and begging for a better price.

Begging, I just ring them and ask if they have a better price before I plug my details into a price comparison site. Has worked for me for the last several years on car and home insurance.

Because it would cost £5.5k to investigate and defend it properly.
