Looking to put in some spot lights in the kitchen - probably about 8 in a room size of about 4mx3m.

Does anyone know roughly how much it would cost? Also, if anyone knows of anyone in west yorkshire who's anygood then please let me know 😉

Cheers,
Andy

Hi Andy

I have a mate who does lots of building type work in Brighouse that might be able to help.

Adam midgley (search for his name or midgely properties on Facebook)

You might find that 8 would be too much for a room of that size - I just fitted 4 in a bigger room than yours and it feels like an operating theatre with them on!

I put a track lighting system into our kitchen. Much simpler electrically as there is only one connection point. I can then add/remove/move lights very simply.

The number is fine as long as they are on a dimmer switch.  Best to put led lighting strip under the wall units on the same circuit.

Possibly £500 give or take depending on who you find.

Ideally spend a bit bit more and put them on two dimmer switches to give you options. I’ve actually got a remote lighting system in my kitchen diner with mood settings controlling 42 lights, but it’s a bit bigger than yours. ( no bragging intended)

lighting can really improve your space, so don’t skimp on it if you can afford it.

I just put 12 x 12w Mi-Light downlights in a room a bit bigger. It’s bright but controllable from my phone or wall panel and once set it doesn’t need messing with. The kids also spend ages changing the colours and making them flash to music.

Don’t just assume that 8 will work out best due to joist positions. You are better off having more and dimming than not enough. You also need to consider how the sparky will get power to the lights. Often you will need a new ceiling or overboarding and a skim.

Thanks all, we have two track lights in at the moment so the power is there already (but just needs extending out i'm guessing). We're finding the track lights really blinding and we have dark spots too so I think spotlighting would be best. Good idea to have dimmers fitted so will look at that.

@alibongo001:- thanks, have left a facebook message for your mate

Cheers,

Andy

Me personally, would be at least £400 to supply and fit.....£500 is a good figure to work on.

Without a site visit it is hard to give a proper figure. If done correctly, you shouldn't need to put dimmers in!!

In a lounge, yes, but who seriously puts dimmers on kitchen lights????

If you want softer lighting, install under cabinet lights.....

Best of both worlds then, nice subtle lighting for getting a new bottle of red in the evening and when needed, put mains lights on for prepping and cooking etc.
