Recently took one of those at home poo tests. Instructions says it needs to show two COLOURED lines to be positive for blood
The attached pic shows a very faint GREY line. It has no colour to it as you can see in the close up pic. Reading taken just after 5 min. looks more like a watermark or shadow.
i read these lines are quite common on pregnancy tests. Took another couple since then, one similar, one no line at all.
What do the stw experts think?
What brand are they?
No idea. But if you've any reason whatever to think there might be blood in your poo see your GP and get a proper lab test.
If you're 60+ you'll get a FIT test kit by post every couple of years, I've heard they were supposed to be expanding the age range but don't know if they've actually done so. But if you've concerns at any age speak to a doctor.
I'm sure you know all that though so I don't know why you'd be messing with home test kits if you've any genuine concerns.
brand for that one was My health check
i have done a one step test as well which was even fainter
How old are you, why are you doing these tests and what time does it say to read them at in the instructions?
Often if you leave them longer than the recommended time you will get a faint grey line.
48. How come? And why does it matter what make of test?
had a bit of a dicky tummy last week and I’ve had a bit of ongoing indigestion for years. Had a routine (clear) colonoscopy 2 years ago as 12 years ago the found a big polip.
So if it is blood I’d say it’s unlikely to be from the Bowel. Not sure if these tests show up stomach issues, doesn’t sound like they do.
either way it’s pretty hard to tell if there is even blood there. Pregnancy tests are apparently prone to grey ‘evaporation lines’ which look very similar to what I’m seeing, ie a very faint grey line which you really need to squint to see. When you zoom in real close to those pics, the line is not pink. Certainly the last pic you could only see it at certain angles
hard to get a GP appointment but will see if I can get one booked

Bevause the risk of bowel cancer goes up with age.
The make of test was so I can see the instructions.
Are you reading them at the correct time, or is it that they’re getting these grey lines later?
Pic taken at around 7 min on that first test. Instructions say read at 5, not after 10. The more I look at the pic below the more I think it’s a a grey line, there is not a hint of pink. Especially when you zoom in
i guess only a trip to gp will be able to confirm however

They are, judging by the kit that just landed on my doorstep. (54)
@poopscoop to the forum!
I had one last year aged 54.
All clear for the , although I was surprisingly nervous about opening the results letter.
