My lump of steel olympic weights are rusting a bit and are annoying to handle (pick up from the floor, put on and off the barbell), so I'm thinking of upgrading them to something more user friendly. Looking online however and it seems that £4/kg is about the going price, meaning replacing 140kg of weights isn't going to be cheap. Anybody suggestions which shops i should be looking at in particular?
Facebook Marketplace? Seems a common thing to see in there.
Wouldn't it make more sense to refurbish the discs you have already?

I kitted my old gym out from Powerhouse Fitness, it was great value back then....
I bought some cheap olympic bumber plates, and got maybe 6 years out of them. The 15 kgs died and had to be replaced with something better. They didn't like being dropped all the time...

Facebook marketplace for 2nd hand stuff (or ebay).
There's few re-sellers that clear out commercial gyms, they occasionally have bargains on well used competition or commercial plates that are probably still likely to outlast cheap bumpers. Stuff I've seen recently, there were some MYO commercial bumpers for £1/kilo, Ziva competition bumpers for £2, someone sold am almost new set of Mirafit competition plates for £2.25 which I was kicking myself for missing.
The stuff at £3+ sits there forever not selling, if you're patient and wait a few weeks someone will be along that's motivated to sell. I guess the commercial clearance stuff is coming up because the gyms are now back up and running at full capacity and more are being refurbished after perhaps putting off for a few years due to cashflow (or just the complete lack of stock of anything from suppliers).

I presume if it's difficult to pick up that we're talking cheaper plasma cut steel rather than cast iron.
Facebook market place for all my kit. All my weights are for the unfashionable 1" bars, paid around 50p per kilo. Picked up a mirafit m130 adjustable squat rack and m150 bench off there too. Whole lot cost me less than a years gym membership.
Heavy things are expensive, unless you have the time and patience to hunt across marketplaces for them. Something I found with one seller, Black-box was the quality checking of the actual weight was missing. A 17.5kg dumbbell actually weighed 18.2kg I think (it might even have been 18.4). I contacted them and asked if this was normal, they replaced it and let me keep the original. The replacement was also over-weight, by a different margin.
Powerhouse Fitness - 165kg olympic plates only at £359 or 145kg inc 7' olympic bar both at same price.
Fitness Superstore.
I got all mine from Mirafit. Couldn't justify paying what people were asking on ebay when I could get what I wanted brand new for an extra 25% more.
Gumtree also for plates, bars, power racks etc.
