What's the best materials & method to box in exposed pipework & build a cupboard to hide a boiler?

it depends what you mean by best
Cheapest? Nicest looking easiest to work with etc
No offence but not enough detail to answer but wood for the cupboard - what room is it in ?and it depends how large the pipe work is ducting or box off

Usual way is to buy the kitchen wall unit a bit bigger than the boiler, and box in the messy bits by putting 2x2 pine pse timber on the wall and cover in mdf, painted to wall colours.

- Cheapest (within reason)
- Kitchen
- Pipework is too big for ducting

Ah, good point - I'll check out the units, although obviously the boiler is deeper than a standard wall unit.

Otherwise, 2x2 baton frame with MDF or something sounds like the way forward.

when you box it off make sure you can get at all the valves and have enough access to service/repair the boiler.
kitchen cupboard and MDF is the best solution - i just put mine in a cupboard and left it all exposed as i dont use the cupboard for storage and you then have east access to the pipework etc

we use mdf, before boxing in the boiler..

first make sure the make and model can be boxed in and what the minimum dimensions are
secondly understand clearly that most mainatenance will mean the removal of the 'cupboard' and remember that your friendly boiler repair guy is a boiler repair guy and last time i did my exams there wasnt a section on rebuilding kitchen units..

i have been to homes whenre the entire built in wardrobe had to be removed to get at the boiler and another where we had to take out the bathroom wall to get to the boiler..

Top tip...

When boxing piping in, dont subsequently drill a hole in one of those pipes. Especially if it is a soil pipe from the bathroom and the leak goes undetected for nearly three years when black patches start to appear in the solid wood floor, under which water has been leaking to since the day the numpty builder left the site.

Chances of me having any comeback on the **** * now? None.
