Hi again, lots of questions at the moment!

As you may have read, in the summer we are moving back to Scotland (Stirling, offer accepted, fingers crossed for everything going well please).

We need home and contents insurance, obvs, but it having cover for 'good' bikes, replacement value, is rather important.

In using Money Supermarket to get some quotes, there doesn't seem to be an issue in adding expensive bikes in there, but some chat on here would suggest that this may not be the case in reality.

Your thoughts and experiences greatly appreciated.

Also, is it worth chucking car insurance into a total policy, all egos in one basket kind of deal, or should we be looking separates?

ta!

Aviva has been good for us for the last 5 years or so. Bikes are insured up to the cost to replace the most expensive one.
We get a discount for insuring the cars with them as well.

I tend to look at home & contents policies which are good for our general requirements and then look at adding bikes to the quote, rather than searching out policies which cover bikes and then seeing if they satisfy our other requirements.

For what its worth, our current Aviva Premium policy includes bikes in the general contents limit, with no individual bike limit, but a quick look on their website they have now put a limit on £5k per bike if you get a quote online (more available over the phone).

I don't have a lot of high value bikes though. Separate bike insurance might be a better option for you if you do e.g. through Cycling UK who don't ask you to specify every bike, just a total amount http://www.cyclesure.uk/cyclinguk

You can get car + home & contents polices through the same provider to get a small discount, but they will still be separate insurance polices.

Hope that helps.

Aviva plus.

new for old. Garage and shed covered. No minimum security requirements.  Max Value is as house cover (£75k for us).
My 6 year old 26” wheeled Yeti 5 alloy was taken from the garage. Yeti don’t do alloy any more so they paid out for a new carbon one.

Aviva here.

Obviously, if we are all with them the claims experience will get distorted and they will change the cover eventually

The Aviva policy seems to get a lot of love on here so def worth checking out. I'm still with Pedalcover (home contents) and have no complaints (but I've not had to make a claim so not much of test...). Main reason for going with Pedalcover is the lack of restrictive conditions around the bike storage etc. and the premium was cheaper than I was paying before (but probably need to compare with other policies at next renewal).

My last experience of a bike specific policy was they wanted 10% of the insured value as the premium - screw that once you have a decent collection of bikes (and they had a lot of conditions such as it had to be secured with an approved lock even when inside a garage). OK locking the bike with a garage/shed is probably sensible security but I didn't want to end up shafted if they did get nicked on an occasion I'd forgotten to lock them to the ground anchor.
