My contract with BT is about to expire & I've seen a deal at EE & was looking for some real world experiences/recommendations.

Average family use i.e, gaming, streaming music/tv & bike porn!!!!

Many thanks

Was a long term Demon user until they were bought out by Vodaphone and made it clear they were not interested in the likes of me. After some research switched to Zen initially on ADSL but now on fibre to cabinet. Not the cheapest but the support/customer service is excellent and we have had very little in the way of issues. They regularly top customer satisfaction surveys.

We are on a silly cheap EE fibre deal - iirc it was half price for 6 of the 12 months.

Plusnet. They are owned by BT, but maybe better value, and more helpful support. Got FTTC, works fine for me, usually fast enough.

Another happy(ish) Zen user here but they are pricey and I can't actually remember the last time I had to call their (admittedly very good) support, probably 2 years ago at least, so I'm starting to question whether the premium is worth it. Thing is am I just used to a good stable service that I just think it's normal or am I just paying more than I need to (after all the underlying infrastructure is all the same)...

I have been with BT a number of years but like you I’m no longer tied to them. Checked out the alternatives and signed up for Plusnet fibre to cabinet unlimited deal. Saves me £30 a month. Phoned BT and they offered me a £5 off my existing deal. Was a no brainer to leave. Also just moving my BT family SIMs. Much better deal with Virgin mobile and they roll over your unused data. It’s a great feeling to know BT won’t be fleecing me no more.

All the providers are crap - so you may as well go with the cheapest.

Depends where you live as to which companies can offer you which services.

We went from TalkTalk to BT. The service was the same, the customer service was equally sh*t with either company. BT was far more expensive. Went back to TalkTalk and switched to fibre too. Waaaay cheaper and works really well.

If you're doing mobile phone and ISP together deal then you can get better deals too. Plusnet basically offers you EE but much cheaper. Why would anyone use EE directly? I can't think.

MY Plusnet mobile is £10 monthly for a rolling month to month contract with 6Gb data and unlimited calls/texts but they do cheaper deals too.

Biggest down side of moving is email provider.

Is there a work round so you don't have to pay bt just for email?

Best to keep your email separate from your ISP. I've use Gmail, or Fastmail etc, or sign up for your own domain name.

If you're also looking around for electricity / gas / etc deals as well then it's worth looking at Utility Warehouse for a bundle. Speed seems fine and they were on the ball when upgrading my broadband, getting new router out, etc.
