I'm mad about wildlife, so I think it's going to be a great place to take the mtbs and go on wildlife spotting trip next year, for 2 weeks.

So could anyone give me advice on the best times to visit to see Golden eagles, white tailed sea eagles (infact any eagle), otters, seals, etc and not get too midged?

Thanks.

In terms of weather and midges the best time to visit Skye is usually May, possibly into early June.

I've no idea what the best time of year is in terms of wildlife spotting but I have frequently gone to Skye around this time of year. Golden eagles should be easy enough to find and this year we watched an Otter playing on the shoreline opposite the Sconser Lodge hotel. Watching otters from the comfort of the bar is the right way to do it IMO 🙂

Sea Eagles - would Mull be better perhaps?

Hi
We went to Skye and had a great time, we didn't do any bird watching but we did go sea kyaking and that probably the highlight of the trip.
The walking did take some deating though, the cuillins are truly special.

I've been to both Skye & Mull on a handful of occasions. I've definitely had more luck spotting wildlife on Mull. Everything you've mentioned in your post infact. Calgary for the Sea eagles. Bunessan & Uisken for the otters. Seals in abundance. Not a great deal of help if you're going to Skye I realise 🙁 There are some excellent trails in Glenbrittle forest. Take a map.....I got lost.......

It's sounding promising for late spring/early summer then 🙂

I was up in Skye for the longest day 3 years ago for a week and midges were not a problem, but it was a 22+ degree week with bright sun shine, swimming in the sea etc etc.

Cant really comment on the wildlife apart from we went sea kayaking too and the harbour where we set off from had loads of dead fish floating around in it, and our dog got quite a few ticks.

We actually saw more beards (oops birds, possibly less beards) etc on a visit to Dumfries & Galloway this June, but then again we are not actualy that bothered so could have been more look than judgement.

Raasay (little island between Skye and the mainland) is a great place to see otters / Golden Eagles etc. There's a ferry from Sconser on Skye....

Spring is as good a time to see wildlife as any and not get eaten alive! [shamelessplugmode] If you're looking for somewhere to stay, you could do worse than my Mum's cosy wee cottages on Skye [ /shamelessplugmode].
