AFAIK AirBnB was closed down in Nice by the hotels so there is a lot less choice than there was. A mate of mine used to own and rent out there but he sold as a result. Do you want in Nice itself ? I can ask a few friends / family.

Also avoid August for best choice and less crowds - July and check TdF course or early Sep.

Eze is beautiful.

We usually stay a bit more inland (been to the inevitable Valbonne plenty of times). I did rent a lovely - but small - apartment in Cannes a couple of years ago if you fancy just along the coast.

Somewhere like Biot would be nice, and a short hop to the sea.

Have a look here; http://www.nicepebbles.com we've just booked with them and are heading down in a fortnight, priced sensibly and seem to be very efficient with their emails and booking.
I'll report back if there are any horror stories.

Homeaway is still in Nice as far as I know

Do you definitely want to stay in Nice? I'd be tempted to stay in Antibes, Eze, Vence. If you are visiting the beaches they are nicer down towards Grimaud and Saint Tropez

I've been going to the area for around 10 summers, and usually hire a car to have a mooch around the beautiful villages in the hills nearby

Who do you usually rent a car through when over there?

We stay at a place called La Pin de la Legue, situated a couple of miles outside Frejus which is about 30 mins from Nice airport, great on and off-road cycling round there as it's where they run the Roc d'Azur every year. The domaine is basically static caravans that have been built around, many feature outside kitchens, large patio's, air conditioning etc. site has bar, night club, pools, lots of sports facilities and as all plots are privately owned is very safe and secure, night club is no problem as only used by residents. Many UK owned plots, just google. not going to say who we stay with as your holibobs clashes with ours next year 😉

I was also going to suggest a chalet/static caravan on a campsite as a cheaper alternative. You also have the added bonus of having a lot of facilities onsite (swimming pool, shop, bar etc) and it is generally easier for your kids to meet other kids to play with (if you have kids of course). If you don't mind being not directly at the sea there is a good campsite in Agay just next to Frejus called camping Esterel which is a little in the mountains with trails leaving the campsite and frequented by a lot of Brits.

...Thanks for all your help- We have booked for next summer !

Family of four flying out with BA Heathrow to Nice - £500 with full luggage allowance

Car hire Compact size (astra) £220 for 2 weeks

Apartment in Cannes with shared pool £900 2 weeks

I know we have booked way in advance and the only thing I have paid for is the flights in full car hire and apartment deposits paid and rest payable in June next year.

Really does pay to book early our flights were £64 each way with BA !

Lots of trips into the mountains and [s]ogling [/s] on the beach....

Thanks one and all for all help
