Got a couple of weeks with the family down in Cornwall, mid-July, staying near St. Ives.

Looking for recommendations for all the usual good stuff: beaches, walks, pubs, restaurants, ice cream, dogging, local history, etc.

Got a busy 8-year-old who loves anything animal-related.

Only activity I’ve booked so far is the Eden Project.

Grateful for any suggestions.

I'll be in Carbis Bay for two weeks from Saturday.

Flambards, Seal Sanctuary, Newquay Zoo, Porthcurno Telegraph Museum if it's raining, Lizard Lighthouse

Loads to do. We've been going for twenty odd years and still not bored of it.

Greeb Farm at Lands End. It's the best bit

Blas burgerworks in St Ives was excellent. Found St Ives itself really busy.

Dairyland farm park, it is a wee bit tired but our kids never noticed an had a great time, don't think its too expensive either.

We stayed in Mawgan Porth which we liked very much , nice quiet cove, lovely beach and a few nice takeaway type places to eat. Loads of places like this though.

Preferred Padstow to St Ives too if you are looking for a day out.

I'll wear my baby robin t-shirt so you can spot me.

On the cards; we're booked into Rick Stein's place to guzzle some marine life one evening.

Family has had a cottage in Carbis bay for over 60 years.

Get the train to Lelant Saltings. Walk back into St Ives. Past Lelant station. Along Lelant beach (or behind the dunes). Up the steps at Hawks Point (if the tide is out). Along coastal path through Carbis Bay and into St Ives past Porthminster beach. Brilliant views and a great walk.

Rick Steins is overrated. Seems to me that the less they do to a fish the more they charge for it.

You jammy get.

I'm moving there the day after I win the lottery. It's one of my favourite places.

Don’t underestimate how long it takes to get around. Cornish miles are long and slow...

Some lovely dogging spots on the north coast road between Hayle and Portreath. Get there early for the sunset though and take a camera - you won't regret it!

Went last year with an 8 and 10 year old. The big hits were…

Kynance Cove
Flambards (do it on Tesco)
Pendennis Castle – Check to see if there is jousting on
Paradise Park (better than I expected!)
Lizard (circular walk)
Lands End from Senen Cove
Shanty Baba’s Ghost and Pirate walks in St Ives (highly recommended)
Kidz R Us theatre St Ives https://kidzrus.net/
Godrevey beach
St Michael’s Mount
Bottalack https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/botallack We did it in the mist when visibility was about 50m very atmospheric (but watch the head room in the arsenic tunnels – I speak from experience on this one)

We stayed in Marazion. We'll be going back in acouple of years.

Would second the wall from Lelant to st Ives. My grandparents lived down near the church and I spent every school holiday down there. The Badger pub does a decent sandwich as well.
Also nice walk up to Trencrom hill, good rocks to climb on, views and haunted by fairies ha.
Gwithian is a great and enormous beach.
Lamorna Wink is a nice spot as well. Tehidy woods has some good walks and some interesting industrial heritage.

Today I managed to drive the entire length of the A30 from Exeter to St Ives on a hot, July Saturday afternoon without stopping.

Not once.

I didn’t think such a thing was possible.

What a time to be alive!

I’ll never forget driving down into Carbis Bay a few years ago in August. It was blowing a gale and battering down. Can’t have been more than 15 degrees. The beach was rammed. People fully clothed, huddling together under umbrellas, in tents, behind windbreakers.

The British beach holiday laid bare.

“I’ve come for a beach holiday and I’m damn well going to have one!”

Absolutely ridiculous.

Did Manchester - St Ives in 6 hours on a Saturday in August last year. Set off at 3:00am though. Sailing past Bristol at 70 mph was a joy to behold.
