Time to arrange the family holiday for this summer, and it looks like the South West is the destination of choice for 2 teenagers (13 & 15), their stressed parents and an insane Airedale terrier.
Looking for a nice cottage as a base from which we can:
- Visit interesting places (like English Heritage / National Trust) sites without driving all day.
- Do loads of walks in great countryside.
- Some good biking, preferably from the door so that I can get a 2 hour ride in before breakfast.
Which towns / villages should I be looking at?
Cheers.
search Bovey Tracey.. it ticks all your boxes
there's not a lot going on there outside of your parameters but it's got good access routes..
Crantock near Newquay, very nice beach some good singletrack
sea front cottage at Tor Cross
Have a look for Sherrill Farm, holiday cottages with a big indoor pool, and Jacuzzi. We've been in Feb a couple of times. The pool makes all the difference in bad weather. Not bling though. Handful of miles south of Tavistock.
St merryn, there is a campsite the called carnevas, they have a converted farm house which is amazing. And it's 1 min from the sea. And has an amazing cliff side walk opposite
