Hello all,

Hoping the hive mind here can help with some holidays ideas. We're looking for a European destination for a week with a 18month old. Somewhere with some sort of creche/nursery provision that can be utilised for shorter periods i.e one day rather than the full week would be great. Also good access to bike hire, watersports, etc but also beachy enough for non activity people to enjoy. Close proximity to a decent size town would be good I suppose but not essential. I have looked at Neilson and Mark Warner type holidays but given the age of our little one it doesn't warrant the cost to have all the activities bundled in as well as paying extra for a full week of childcare. We would also prefer to stay away from anything too much towards the all inclusive sort of thing but appreciate a resort of some type is probably our best option. Thinking early July in terms of dates. Fairly specific but hopefully the extensive knowledge here can help.

Cheers

Center Parcs, the Nottinghamshire one isn't far from Mansfield for exploring the town.

Do you have a relative you could take with you to take care of the occasional childcare need? It might be a lot cheaper to book an extra cheap flight and larger villa than find something resort based.

I really like Calvi in Corsica for having a mix of town/beach/mountain options. It’s more of a DIY place than package holidays though.

Porto Pollensa in Majorca is probably the other obvious location for combining bike riding and beaches. You can pick up package deals there easy enough.

A bike trailer? I'm only half joking we've only ever gone bike touring with our kids. Bundling them in a trailer gives you a solid 7hrs of peace and quiet every day!!!!

This place has everything on your list plus a lovely evening short boat taxi to Rovinj town which is stunning

you can call in local childcare wherever in the world you are, but if you're not comfortable with leaving your kid with an unchecked stranger, I'd say the only option is an all-inclusive resort, or at least a very full-service hotel.

Its worth noting that even most of them don't allow you to drop a kid off at the included childcare until the kid is 6, so you have to pay for the 1:1 babysitting service. The included creche will ask for an adult to be present at all times, and staffed by a bored teenager who won't pay your kid any attention..

Neilson active. Did this when the kids were younger out of school holidays when the price isn't eye watering.

Thanks all. I have actually worked at Amarin in Rovinj before so had thought about it. It's a great place so will do some further investigations.
