Did he hit you and fail to stop? Not clear from your post if so make that clear to all you report to.

Bummer!! 😡

Hope you feel better soon and no damage done. Go after him and do whatever you can do to make sure he doesn't get away with it.

Ouch. "Hurl abuse at cyclists", that part reinforces the fact it needs reporting. Accidents do happen but this sounds a bit different. Have to admit I've not taken the Boris bike for a month or so now, too dark / wet for me, I think it's a bit too dangerous at this time of year.

A bit of a blur so don't have full number plate other than grey cab. He just came up along side and then closed me right down and up against curb.

No real harm to me other than still shaking, but don't have enough info to report him. He must have had a long night as he was so aggressive. It was just a straight road so nothing that could have pissed him off.

Thanks (DD!) will stop shaking in a few minutes.

Ignore the driver and just walk to back of cab and repeat the licence number (not registration) loudly and repedetly.
It's hard to remember this in the heat of the moment but it comes in very handy later on 8)

Half the number plate, plus the fact it's grey not black might be enough

There won't be that many registered taxis in your area, that information should be enough for the licensing authority to go on I'd have thought.

That sucks, glad you are unhurt.

Enough of a license plate to report it, I'd say.

Road cc tweeted a story today about a very similar case..... Except the guy the cabbie hit was a policeman

Even with a partial reg no, I'd still report it.

Hope you get over the shock.

Report it anyway, you never know maybe there was another incident with a gray cab last night, or a pattern and they've enough of an idea who it was to check where he was at that time.

Oof.

Reminds me of some of the local lads were out for a Sunday a.m. spin, they got buzzed two Sundays in a row (I think) by some chap). Second was very close. Took licence plate, reported to police.

Police go round to the driver's house, he made no denial, simply said it was their word against his. "Who are they anyway?" was his retort to the policeman.

PC: "Well sir, shall we start with the local sheriff, a couple of solicitors, and three inspectors of police".
That shut him up and no further trouble was noted 🙂

With a partial reg. colour and make of car should work.
Sounds like a mentalist.

That sucks. Sorry.

if the incident isn't CCTV, you might get the taxi no. from a camera just up or down the road.

I will try to find time, but most likely his word v mine. Should be on CCTV but will they be bothered as I was not injured? Not sure.

They'll probably not do anything, but it'll get recorded and may be useful later.

If a taxi (Hackney) they most often have logs of pickups and drop offs if private they will most likely have GPS back to central.
I'd report it for sure, although the Licensing Authority are not exactly proactive IYKWIM, at least in Edinburgh. I have reported 3 taxis in the past, 2 for near misses with me and a pedestrian and another for knocking a cyclist down - this 3rd one is still waiting to go to court. As seaid above if they can be identified it at least gets recorded.

Anyone found a way to blame you yet? Road positioning? choice of clothing? bright lights? Maybe the Bike forum is the right place to get this turned around!

Just report it to the Police and the Public Carriage Office.
You could maybe ask someone to write a script to insert the missing 15,625 combinations into this search facilty.

All taxi drivers are c***s end off, with bus drivers not far behind..(This applies to London)..Track him down if you can but as you say your more than likely gonna get nowhere...since they've been given that little sticker in the back window they think it gives them even greater rights to drive how they want..

As someone who drives a black cab, I say report it to the local licensing authority. I'll bet they take it seriously. I know the one up here would.

What about the one's who also ride bikes?

Could you clarify so that I know who to hate?

Also, car drivers...are they ok? And vans? I hear they are sometimes difficult.

As I said applies to london...And when you have to put up with them all day you'd understand...Take up every car parking space in every garage, cafe, food place and road...then the minute they get a call they think there Lewis Hamilton driving and police car and everyone should get out of there way....anyway that's my opinion,I know everyone won't agree

McHamish, car drivers are mostly ok apart the 2 ****s that have run me over...van drivers the same, but there gonna get worse with the cyclists beware signs that all companies are putting on to deflect blame..I can't see the problem with going down the side of a caddy or transit

There's a difference between black cab and minicab drivers. I know which one I'd rather have driving near me when cycling into and around town.

No but here's some ammo

- road positioning - check
- helmet - fail
- high viz - fail (suit and dark overtime but at least my knitted silk tie is pink today!)
- lights - semi fail (only the Boris bike ones)
- defensive riding - check

Jambas - won't be finished here till v late!!! I will try, but work priorities first!!!

there's only 7 (10 per pages so only ~70 matches) pages of matches against LT56*

do you remember make and model, or any of the rest of the letters?

here

Could be worth a look ...

and the DVLA 'check if a vehicle is taxed thing here will allow you to cross ref on the colour if you want to get all detectivey!

With a cheeky bit of mashup coding those two sites could be cross referenced to produce a list of silver cabs. If THM could remember the make/model then that would reduce the set further.
