Has anyone done this?

What sort of costs are are we talking about?

Just looking at doing something for a 40th birthday and ideally making a weekend of it!

Cheers.

One of these should fit the bill perfectly ( needs to be 20" though). Cost? Around £2800

I imagine your looking at narrow boats. The last time I looked it was circa £500 for a long weekend (that was 4yrs ago when I last looked). I'm also interested.

I went for a mates birthday in Feb this year. It was £300 for Thursday morning to Sunday morning. Four of us on board, fuel extra.

Unfortunately we chose the weekend when the entire country, including the canal network, were frozen solid so spent four days living on a boat in the wharf in Market Harborough. Still had a great laugh (mates, beer, winter walks along the canal to pubs for lunch) despite not doing any canalling.

We're planning on going again next year, maybe late Feb/early March, I'm assuming the price will be the same.

Def recommended though, the potential for boat-related puns all weekend is fantastic.

I hired a barge for the day from New Mills in the summer - £120 from as early as we could get there until almost dusk

Last year. Went from Sowerby Bridge, up to Tod and then back. Was a right laugh, we had it friday saturday and sunday nights.

Current prices are here :-

Been a few times and loved it. For some reason we all adopt pirate accents and drink rum for breakfast, aaaarrrrrr! Really depends on the size of the boat, area and quality. We’ve always gone in May and pay anything from £450 to £600. Would really recommend the Mon & Brec or llangothlin canal. If you have a look at the 'canal junction' website they have a great list of all the firms, areas and stuff like that across the country.
