Prompted by the death of Steven Bochco. It was groundbreaking in it's time, and it's available on All4, so is it still worth a watch or has it not aged well?
Oh yes, very much so. Also NYPD Blue. Dennis Franz was superb.
Yes still worth watching but like many American TV shows it just goes on and on and on seemingly for ever (146 episodes!!)
Nope.
It’s not going to be The Wire, is it?
Watching S1 E1 now. It’s old, but good.
Lets be careful out there 😉
NYPD blue superior. "The Sipowycz Story...".
I think you need to try it and see for yourself, it was really groundbreaking back in the day so at least watching an episode or two to see how far TV has progressed is worth it. I was a big fan of it back when I was a teenager, it was by far the best thing on TV back then. I tried to rewatch it a couple of year ago, but couldn't. I think it would still be a great show if they remade it to highlight the Black Lives Matter things going on now, but the dialogue and acting don't quite stand up to modern standards. The gang members in particular just weren't scary compared with shows like The Shield or Sons of Anarchy - David Caruso looked more like a leprechaun than a fearsome gang leader. Just shows how much TV has improved in 35 years, back then, HSB was incredibly innovative, now it's nothing special.
