Not sure if it is just old age but I really struggle at festivals with my feet really aching. Reaching the point that even for the first night headliner I am struggling to stand for the whole set.

Bit worried that the answer may be less walking/band watching and less alcohol but also been recommended I try hiking or compression socks and maybe even inner soles.

anyone have any recommendations?

Something merino, plus Sealskinz. It'll be a wet one.

What footwear?

I go dry: sandals day / walking shoes light merino night

Wet: walking boots heavy merino

Seriously bad wet as in flooding: wellies and the thickest/longest socks possible

One wet year we gave in and bought camping chairs. There was just nowhere dry to sit. Sitting down as much as possible makes a difference when you get past a certain age.

Superfeet insoles work well for me

I’m also a fan of Darn Touch Socks as they are merino and have a promising lifetime guarantee

Go to lockwoods in Leamington, they will be able to help and you can buy in person

Red On socks. Developed for military application. Current buzzword is 'tactical athlete'.

There is so much nonsense on that Red On socks site that I can barely believe it's legal .... Cotton socks that are nearly doubling running economy...?? 🙂

I have some darn tough socks and one thing I'll say is that they're lasting a lot longer than SmartWool socks I've owned. And yes, likely less alcohol will make a bigger difference

I'll reiterate what I posted to begin with; it will be wet & muddy. Either biblical rain with wet sloshy mud (good for walking around in, not so good for sitting), or it will be heavy rain subsiding towards Friday. If this happens (and the sun appears) the ground will become a sticky quagmire that makes walking a total slog.
Either way your best bet is decent wellies that you're used to wearing, with as many pairs of quality merino walking socks as you can take with you. And some plasters or Sudocrem for blisters/chafing. Or cats.

@hightensionline I do have wellies but hope you are wrong about the weather! What makes you so adamant that it will be rubbish ( or is it just that this good weather can’t continue?)

Rain is forecast for the start of the week, up to Thursday. It's been dry as a bone for a month, so its expected and desperately needed.
Fingers crossed you have a dry(ish) one though!

weather forecast says dry at the moment, it hasn't rained here for three weeks at least,  if there is a downpour I'd be more concerned about flash flooding than mud

It's too far out for a weather forecast

Wellies: last resort, trust me, it's got to lakes of water like 2007 to make them worth it, and they've got much better drainage now

Camping chair I reckon - through the day there could be a fair bit of sitting about/drinking/band watching. Not to heavy to carry. (one with a beer holder for more points)

I hope its good weather for you, but I would take wellies anyway, if you don't you'll irate the rain gods and inevitably it will rain. If you do take them and it doesn't rain take it as a bonus, if it does rain you'll be prepared.

(sandals and wellies for me when I go, and if going by car a clean set of clothes in the boot)

Enjoy
