My salewa boots have decided to develop a flappy clappy front sole.
Is it just a case of glueing them back together with the old contact adhesive or should I be looking a for a boot repairerer who has speshul glue/skills?
The vibram section is okay at the moment so they don't really need resoled but if they do get resoled how much do they replace? The vibram layer of the whole sole?
Or is it all just a bunch of cobblers and I need new boots?
I've fixed up quite a few shoes and boots with peeling soles now with great success. I use shoo goo or a copy. By the smell/texture it's pretty close to normal contact adhesive. Might just be regular contact adhesive but it's not really any more expensive
I tried shoogoo on five tens a couple of times, not much success tbh. Scottish mountain gear don't list boot repairs, mibbe worth calling them to ask where they use or recommend?.
Try this chap - I'm sure one of his videos covers your issue.
If you're not able to repair it yourself then contact FeetFirst in Chesterfield
The cobbler near where I live did mine last time around as it was just a sole re-fix required. The biggest bonus is using a local traditional business that's been there forever, still has the same animatronic cobbler (if that's the right description) in the window tapping away on the sole of a boot, and the smell in the shop is amazing haha!
Sounds like the midsole is crumbling. My wife had her boots repaired and resoled by Lancashire sports repairs, whereas mine went back to Meindl. Both pairs as good as new.
Have used lsr for a few repairs and they have always been great with the repairs being as good as new
I've recently fixed a flappy sole with CT1 contact adhesive - and filled some holes in the sole on one of my flat-pedal shoes.
Holding well so far.
Thanks all.
Having had a better look at them I'm going no wear near them as it's not actually a complete separation yet. The scrambling toe bit it still firmly attached to the rand so and some of the foam does actually a little shagged although the current issue is not in the foam area of the sole.
The toe actually might make it a hassle to get fixed as I think it excludes standard vibram sole repairs and will need salewa originals.
I'll lrs a message. They're not taking any repairs until January though but I'll find out whether it's worth holding on or not.
Just take it to your local Timpsons. They spend all day glueing soles back on and know what they are doing. In my case drop it off at 12.30, collect an hour later and three years on the sole is still attached.
It really isn't a specialist job.
