Any recommendations? Post lockdown (of course) planning is coming to mind

We have a large tent so wild camping isnt really an option.

Somewhere central to the highlands thats nice and quiet?

That Red Squirrel place in Glen Coe keeps being suggested. Is that any good?

I like the Red Squirrel but it can get a bit midgey!

The Clachaig is just along the road and the site even let you have open fires at a couple of spots (weather permitting).

Don't know if it counts as quiet - it's not too far from the main road, although that's over the other side of the river.

The site at Invercoe (Glencoe village) is a lot more open and has better views if it's that area grabs your fancy. It's right on Loch Leven so great if you have a boat/kayak etc.

The Red Squirrel in Glencoe is ok if you’re looking for an old school basic facilities campfires allowed campsite in an epic setting. Swim in the river if the weathers good, great walking and some decent cycling too.

Other campsites I’ve stayed at - the one at Contin near the Strathpuffer venue. Basic as above, no campfires, decent river and great biking nearby.

Glenmore Campsite near Aviemore. Staff can be totally hit or miss but great location for hiking/hiking/paddling on Loch Morlich right beside it.

Blair Atholl, campsite next door to the castle. Awesome facilities and location for all sorts of outdoor fun.

Ballater Camspite. Cracking facilities and Ballater is lovely. Epic biking from the doorstep.

There’s a few of the top of my head.

Reason the red Squirrel gets a bad rep is because they have rules.
Campfires are allowed, but only till, I think it was 10:15pm, when they go around with a watering can and put your little fire out for you. YOU WILL GO TO BED NOW.

Oh and no talking 😆 because they wander around and chastise anyone speaking above a whisper.

It is good for people with young families as the rules allow them to sleep. You know how some campsites are and sometimes folk up to the next day drinking swearing and laughing loudly.
Plus it has toilet facilities and a shop, and its near to Glencoe village, which also has a wee shop and is close enough to Loch Leven to walk or cycle there.
