Going to look at a high mileage (150000+) berlingo hdi, full service history etc. Pretty cheap, should I be looking for anything major? Bodywork doesn't bother me. Or should I not even bother going to look? 😀
engines are bulletproof I have a hdi Picasso with 120k on the clock no worries
Yes, head gasket would be main concern for me along with evidence of regular cambelt changes. If its blowing any and I mean any smoke walk away as Turbos are not cheap.
If its okay on the smoke front make sure that the heater works as often thats another thing thats a give away of impending expensive problems ( ie blocked heater matrix).
Then there is the obvious gerabox noises and make sure that the clutch is smooth on take up of drive ie no judder and then things like brake discs and driveshaft gaiters.
Its the same with any diesel, if they are looked after there is no reason that you will not be getting 250,000 miles out of the engine, after all its the same engine thats in the van version.
Be very interested in cam belts and clutch should have been done or poss around there, depends how much was motorway. We have just scrapped same engine, it went to 240,000 one clutch and no other work at all and still going strong - just car not keeping up with it!
How cheap?
If less than £500 at it lasts a year, that'll be fine
150k... only just run in then.
Full service history. Can you confirm that?
Cheap as well!!!!!????
Sounds good to me.
