Apart from Essilor Experio lenses what else is out there? It's becoming apparent that I need to get some day to day tinted lenses and I'd like polarised as well. My prescription is currently -10.5 so they'll need to be high index too....
Any recommendations?
No one?
OP if you can wait i can have a look tomorrow at work (own an opticians) and will find you a range, having said this the essilor is a very good lens
from memory Shamir do one think its called the autograph, think one of our lens labs do their own too, but will check tomorrow
Thanks Monsieur Hustler. Having spent 2 days at Moorfields last week and having had cryotherapy retinopexy, assuming that it was successful, I have some significant artefacts in my left eye and having available some tinted lenses would make my general life easier.
Very high index plastics are hard to tint which is why there are not many around, but there may also be some glass options available (bit heavier but actually make a slightly thinner lens as their refractive index is better)
How dark are you after btw?
I'm not sure just yet, but I want a tinted lens to reduce day to day visibility of the tares, which are quite visible in my field of vision. I quite fancy polarised to reduce glare and "squinting". I'm not after a lot of tint, just enough to give me some comfort.
OK a 'light tint is easier and will give more options, its then the polarising that will limit options but I'll see what i can find for you tomorrow

Thanks very much.
I have Shamir Autograph lenses, polarised, with DriveWear photoreactive tint, multipoint varifocal, multilayer A/R coating. They really are very good, at their lightest they're actually fairly dark, with a greenish tint, that goes a sort of brown/bronze colour at their darkest.
Had them a couple of years, and they're great lenses, the A/R coating is pretty slick and tough, with no noticeable scratches or marks so far.
The only issue I have is the polarising: it makes using touch-screen devices, at least Apple ones, a bit of a pain, because the glass appears to be polarised, so at one angle the screen goes completely black.
The same also happens with iMacs, fortunately I don't use one professionally any more. 😀
I have high index lenses, polarised with squiffy bad eyes.
I find the polarising with such a prescription really patchy. There's some areas that are darker than others, noticable in the sun / beach. Be careful with the frame you choose and the size of lense as the bigger the lense the harder it is to keep thin, even high index, and without distortion in some areas. I had a really good optician back in the UK who was very clear on what frames would work for me. Every optician I've been to in Oz is happy to take my cash and provide terrible specs.
My fave pair is a pair of Oakley Fives with Rupp and Hubrach transiton lenses. Simply the best set of prescription sunnies I've ever bought and the the next eye test I have, I'll be sorting some frames and sending them to Germany to get some more made up.
